Titans at Jaguars: Injury Report
- Titans OT Taylor Lewan begins the season on suspension. That puts them at a disadvantage when trying to protect QB Marcus Mariota. Pass protection has been an issue for a quarterback who has a tendency of holding on to the football for too long.
- Jaguars QB Nick Foles remains on injured reserve with a broken left clavicle. Rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew makes his second career start. Minshew has been an efficient passer who has shown an ability to generate rushing stats. Minshew could end up without one of his main wide receivers, Chris Conley.
- Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey has requested a trade. Assuming he hasn’t been traded before kickoff, he is expected to play. If he doesn’t, this would eliminate any chance of him shadowing Corey Davis. Possibly adding insult to injury is Jaguars No. 2 cornerback A.J. Bouye remains questionable after missing Week 2.
Titans at Jaguars: Lines (As of Sep. 17)

Titans at Jaguars: NFL DFS Advice
- Expect this game to play UNDER 39 to 39.5. Thursday Night Football matchups tend to favor ugly defensive battles with field goals aplenty. These teams are known for getting into low scoring affairs. Last season, the Titans escaped Jacksonville with a 9-6 win. Neither team has an aerial attack that poses much threat to the opposing defensive backfields. Both teams prefer an offensive style focused on clock management and the ground games.
- Remember when these teams last met? During a Thursday Night game on 12-6-18, Titans RB Henry had 17 carries for 238 yards and four rushing touchdowns. The Titans won 30-9. While one can’t expect an encore of that remarkable performance, it’s reasonable to suggest something similar or better than what Houston Texans RB Carlos Hyde had last week: 20 carries for 90 yards. Texans RB Duke Johnson added six carries for 31 yards. Expect Henry to receive 20-plus touches.
- How will a rookie quarterback making his second start this early in the season fare during a short week? Minshew faces one of the NFL’s top defensive backfields featuring Kevin Byard, Logan Ryan, Malcolm Butler, and Adoree’ Jackson. Choosing between Jaguars WRs Chark Jr., Conley and Westbrook? That’s a crapshoot. Rest assured that if the Jaguars can find some way to get RB Fournette going, then he’s their priority. But how long have experts questioned that?
- Keep an eye on Jacksonville’s cornerback situation. An injury forced Jaguars CB Bouye to miss Week 2. Jaguars CB Ramsey enters this game amidst requesting a trade and turmoil with his head coach. If Ramsey plays, he should remain motivated. Remember that the Titans were one of his childhood favorites. He’s on record claiming that he’d like to play for them.
- If Ramsey shadows Davis, then Titans WR Brown could take advantage of a defense that should put extra men in the box to stop Titans RB Henry. While Titans SWR Humphries has three catches (on three targets) for four yards, maybe he can breakout against a Jaguars defense that has spent the last two seasons playing more zone defenses? The Titans must start getting him involved. At $3200, he’s got enough upside even in a projected low scoring showdown contest.
- Ugly for a showdown game. Both running backs, kickers, and defenses are playable. Titans D/ST has more upside because Jaguars QB Minshew has more turnover potential than Titans QB Mariota. Mariota rarely throws interceptions because he rarely throws the football more than 15 yards downfield. He takes a lot of sacks.
