2019 NFL MVP Watch: Week 6

Welcome in to the 2019 NFL MVP Watch, where I will be taking a look around the landscape of the MVP race in the NFL this season. This is pretty much the same thing as my Heisman Watch, sooooo…like, do I want to spend a lot of time on an intro?

Shit, I guess I will for the uninitiated – each week, I will count down the five most MVP-worthy performances of the week and offer up my reasoning for each ranking. You finish first, you get five points. Second is four, so on and so forth. I will keep the season point totals going at the bottom of the article and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points gets the 2019 SoBros Network NFL MVP “honors.”

2019 NFL MVP WATCH: WEEK 6

1. Lamar Jackson, Ravens QB – Not the best passing day from Jackson, and certainly not a strong quality of opponent, but 152 rushing yards and a score isn’t something to scoff at. Jackson went 21/33 for 236 yards through the air to make for a combined 388 total yards. He continues to hang around in the 2019 NFL MVP race.

4. Sam Darnold, Jets QB – Man, would the Jets have actually been good if Darnold hadn’t missed so much time? I had him pegged as QB2 coming out of that draft (behind only Baker Mayfield), but even I’m surprised at how well he orchestrated the offense in that win over the Cowboys. If he keeps playing like that, he and Adam Gase just may make it. In his return, Darnold went 23/32 for a whopping 338 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick.

3. Kirk Cousins, Vikings QB – All the hoopla surrounding Cousins must’ve really gotten to him. For the second week in a row, Cousins posted a passer rating of at least 138 or more and the Vikings have two convincing wins to show for it. Against a formidable Eagles squad, Cousins went 22/29 for 333 yards, FOUR touchdowns, and a pick.

2. Kyler Murray, Cardinals QB – Make no mistake about it, that Falcons defense sure is the cure for what ails opponents on offense. But, Murray deserves a lot of credit for delivering a hell of a quarterback performance on Sunday. 27/37 for 340 yards and three touchdowns. Things seem to be going a little better than initially expected in Arizona.

1. Russell Wilson, Seahawks QB – The Seahawks are a legitimate Super Bowl contender, and Wilson is a significant reason for that. That comeback against the Browns took some gumption and we know the boy has it in spades. Wilson went 23/33 for 295 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 31 yards and a score on the ground, too. He’s doing it all.
