For the better part of 2019, I feel like I’ve driven by an unopened Donut Time every Wednesday morning when I make my way out to Gladeville for work. For the uninitiated, some brand spankin’ new gas station strip mall was constructed at the Stewart’s Ferry and South Mount Juliet Road junction. It’s cool enough, I guess. Just don’t expect much out of the hot chicken (if you’re in the area and looking for hot chicken, FIND THE HURTS HOT CHICKEN TRUCK!).
Almost immediately, a sign reading “Donut Time” popped up on one of the empty store fronts. Anticipation among Gladeville citizens started to swell, yet week after week, the store still missed an ‘open’ sign.
There aren’t too many good breakfast spots in that part of town unless you want to venture into Providence and fight the crowds. The Glade Diner serves up an excellent breakfast. You can always grab a good biscuit from Cook’s. So, a good donut spot was just what we needed…the missing link when it comes to breakfast spots.
Well, folks – if you’ve been awaiting with bated breath for Donut Time to open, today is your day. I’m here to announce that it is indeed open for business.

I stopped by this morning around 8AM – first thing I noticed was how clean the place was. Then, my eyes darted towards the counter and they’re wide array of donuts. I’m a big time apple fritter guy so I HAD to try it. It’s massive. Like a bear’s paw. It’s crispy, which personally, I love. Perfect amount of icing. It could stand to be a little more apple-y, if you will. But, all in all, this was a good apple fritter.
The sausage egg and cheese biscuit (a staple of modern breakfast) was interesting. The biscuit almost had a tinge of a sweet taste to it. Really different from the usual down-home style of other biscuits in the area. Excellent sandwich.
Both cost me a whopping $4.46. Are you kidding me? I’m not going to be getting two breakfast items every time (maybe), so you replace one of those with a cup of Community Coffee, and that’s breakfast for under $5. I was moved by the man behind the counter, though – I only had $4 in cash, and they had a minimum of $5 for credit card purchases. I was trying to sort myself out and he saw me struggling. I was about to ask for a cup of coffee to get over the minimum and he took the choice right away from me. Insisted that I just give him my $4 and we’d call it even another day.
I was floored – you don’t see that kind of customer care everywhere these days. I’m super pumped Donut Time has opened on this side of town.
Given how frequently I drive by this place, I’m about to gain 30 pounds, no doubt in my mind.
