Welcome in to a new feature we are trying out here on SoBros Network because we were recently approved to be on Google News (YUGE win, LFG), and I am testing whether or not it’s worth doing these sorts of power rankings for the SEO. Yes, that’s the entire basis for this set of NFL Power Rankings.
For me, it’s pretty simple. I’m just looking at wins and losses, and I’m looking at the eye test to determine my top 10 teams in the NFL each week. LFG.
NFL Power Rankings: Week 8 2019
1. New England Patriots (7-0) – The Pats will now finish 2019 2-0 against the New York Jets. I get why people say they haven’t played anybody yet, but this Pats team is still historically good. They’re playing excellent defense right now, and it still doesn’t look like any team in the AFC is going to challenge them. They’ve already beaten the second best team in the conference. This week, they host the Cleveland Browns before making a road trip to Baltimore for a game that could be interesting.
2. San Francisco 49ers (6-0) – The Niners offense has come back down to Earth a little bit over the last two games, but that defense is still other-worldly, allowing just 10.7 points per game. Analytics guys love this team and they just keep finding ways to win. Nick Bosa is a monster.
3. Green Bay Packers (6-1) – Big time performance by Aaron Rodgers puts the Packers at 6-1, but six touchdowns will do that for you. The Packers are playing good defense, so if this Matt LaFleur offense starts to click the way it did on Sunday, watch out – this could be a legit Super Bowl contender. They travel to Kansas City this week.
4. New Orleans Saints (6-1) – We gotta put some respeck on Teddy Bridgewater’s name. He’s playing some highly efficient football and while the Saints haven’t exactly been lighting it up on either side of the ball, they’re doing enough to keep winning. What happens if they hit their stride? It could very well happen this week if Drew Brees returns against the Arizona Cardinals.
5. Minnesota Vikings (5-2) – Top six offense. Top six defense. This odd metamorphosis of Kirk Cousins and the Vikings offense has jumpstarted things in Minnesota. Cousins and Dalvin Cook, who leads the league in rushing, have both asserted themselves into the MVP race. This could be the dark horse to win the Super Bowl.
6. Buffalo Bills (5-1) – You may not be ready to buy in on the Bills, but you might once this team wins 11-12 games. They have the schedule to do just that. The offense isn’t that good, but this defense is good enough to win a championship with. They are the clear 2nd best team in the AFC. They play the Philadelphia Eagles this week.
7. Carolina Panthers (4-2) – An off week for Carolina, but it couldn’t have come at a better time as this team prepares to take on the undefeated 49ers in one of the biggest games of the week. Christian McCaffrey remains my pick for MVP, and this team could have a major say in the NFC race.
8. Baltimore Ravens (5-2) – Big win for the Ravens, going to Seattle and stunning the Seahawks. There’s no denying what this team is about – they’re averaging 204.1 rushing yards per game with a punishing ground attack. If they can control the game, maybe they can give the Pats a run for their money in the AFC. They’re off this week before hosting New England on 11/3.
9. Seattle Seahawks (5-2) – Sunday proved that counting on Russell Wilson for miraculous performances is probably not an ideal strategy for winning football games. Still, this is a good team that has some kinks to work out. They’ll be fine.
10. Dallas Cowboys (4-3) – When they’re on, the Cowboys look like a juggernaut. Between Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper, they have a trio of play-makers that I’d put up against any defense in the NFL. They have a bye this week before traveling to play the New York Giants next week.
CURRENT SUPER BOWL PREDICTION
Patriots over 49ers – I think there’s something to say about the way these two teams adapt and simply find ways to win each week. That something is, “I don’t think there’s another team in either conference that can beat them.” I’m finally going to go all in on San Francisco – they’re the rightful favorites in the NFC right now.
I’ll check back next week with a brand new edition of the NFL Power Rankings. LFG.
