As far as Broadway honky tonks go, Bootleggers Inn is pretty fun. I’ve been several times. Love the variety of the different moonshine flavors. The live music is….well…it’s live music. If you’re into that type of thing, you’ll like it. But, most of all, I like that every time I’ve been in there, it hasn’t been too terribly crowded like most of the bars down on Broadway. Hell, when our guy Stan came to town for the legendary 36 drinks story, Bootleggers Inn was one of the places we took him!
Well, the fine folks of this fine establishment are making a ploy to get more local Nashvillians downtown with a promotion that I have to say….seems incredibly weak…
Through December 5, patrons of Bootleggers have a chance to get a free beer. The 100 Years 100 Beers campaign recognizes the 100th Anniversary of the start of Prohibition.
What!?
THAT is your effort to get more locals in? You have a chance to get a free beer? I’m a local…have been for the whole 33 years of my life. I can say unequivocally that there is no way in hell that rolling the dice to potentially win a single free beer is going to get me off my ass and right in the thick of the Broadway insanity.
If your goal is to get locals in, you’re going to have to offer the chance to win a free Toyota or something. Maybe a stake in the Tennessee Titans, I don’t know. Too many of my local friends aren’t going downtown for anything these days, and I can’t say that I blame them. Just let me stay on my side of town with a kickass restaurant scene that includes Nectar: Urban Cantina, Nadeen’s Hermitage Haven, and Steam Boys.
But, because I’m not a fan of just griping about something without proposing a solution for making things better, I think I’d offer up a few words of advice for how you can get more locals out and about on Broadway.
- Offer $5 parking
- Offer $5 beers
- Get rid of all the tourists
- Actually, I don’t think this is going to work.
- Now, I’m just bitching.
