Welcome in to a new feature we are trying out here on SoBros Network because we were recently approved to be on Google News (YUGE win, LFG), and I am testing whether or not it’s worth doing these sorts of power rankings for the SEO. Yes, that’s the entire basis for this set of NFL Power Rankings.
For me, it’s pretty simple. I’m just looking at wins and losses, and I’m looking at the eye test to determine my top 10 teams in the NFL each week. LFG.
NFL POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 16 2019
1. Baltimore Ravens (12-2) – 10 straight for the Ravens after blowing out the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. Now, they’re just one win away from clinching homefield advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. This is the team to beat in the NFL, folks. They travel to Cleveland on Sunday – oddly enough, the Browns are one of only two teams to beat the Ravens this season.
2. Seattle Seahawks (11-3) – The Panthers made things interesting late, but the Seahawks never really looked like they were in jeopardy of losing that game. With the Niners loss, the Seahawks now hold the #1 seed in the NFC for the moment. They have two home games to wrap up the season – this week hosting a feisty Cardinals squad, and then a MASSIVE game against the 49ers in Seattle.
3. New Orleans Saints (11-3) – Drew Brees is now the NFL’s all-time touchdown king. It’s insane to think of how long he’s been one of the best quarterbacks in the league. With all the talk surrounding the Ravens and Seahawks, folks are sleeping on just how good and just how dangerous this team is. They travel to Nashville this week for a big showdown with the desperate Titans.
4. Green Bay Packers (11-3) – Is….is Matt LaFleur actually getting a little bit of ‘Coach of the Year’ buzz?!? I mean, what this Packers team has done this season is pretty surprising. They’ve locked up a playoff spot and look like one of a myriad of teams that could represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. An absolutely massive game on Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings is up next.
5. San Francisco 49ers (11-3) – That one stings. That one’s going to hurt in the end. By the way, don’t look now, but the 49ers are just 3-3 in their last six after starting the season 8-0. I think it’s fair to show reason for concern – this team wraps up the season by hosting the Rams this week and traveling to Seattle in Week 17. This isn’t going to be easy.
6. New England Patriots (11-3) – C’mon guys – let’s not put too much stock into that win over the Bengals. Like the 49ers, there’s reason for concern. The Pats are also 3-3 in their last six, and have lost to three AFC contenders (Ravens, Texans, Chiefs). If they don’t get the offense right, this could be a short postseason for Tom Brady and company. They host the Bills on Saturday in a game that could decide the AFC East.
7. Kansas City Chiefs (10-4) – Four straight wins for the streaking Chiefs who appear to be getting better on defense every week. Patrick Mahomes is getting healthy at the right time, meaning this team could be absolutely lethal come January. They’re at Chicago on Sunday Night Football this week.
8. Minnesota Vikings (10-4) – Well, here we are – it’s make or break this week for the Vikings’ chances to claim the NFC North. They get the Packers on Monday Night Football in a huge game with massive playoff ramifications. After forcing SEVEN turnovers and steamrolling the reeling Chargers, the Vikings find themselves a win away from the playoffs.
9. Buffalo Bills (10-4) – The Bills made a statement going on the road and taking the wind out of the sails of the Steelers. They clinched a playoff spot in the process, but they’re still in the running for the AFC East. This is a dangerous team because of that defense, and they’ll get a shot to take down New England on Saturday.
10. Houston Texans (9-5) – The Texans are just so damn hot and cold this season. They’ve proven capable of beating the NFL’s elite, while also proven capable of getting blown out. I don’t know that I trust this team to make an AFC Championship run, but they certainly look like they’re destined for a division title this year. They get a hot Bucs team this Saturday.
CURRENT SUPER BOWL PREDICTION
Ravens over Seahawks – If I’m a Ravens fan, I’m starting to get a little nervous watching the way the Chiefs are playing. They’ve already beaten ’em once this season. I still think the Ravens are the most complete and impressive team in the AFC, so I see them surviving the gauntlet. On the NFC side, I still trust the Russell Wilson magic to outlast a conference that’s loaded with juggernauts this year.
