I’ll just come right out and say it – 2020 has the movies. I didn’t expect it to be as tough as it was to cut the list down to 20, but here we are. The 20 films I’m most excited for this year.

20 Films in 2020

Bad Boys 4 Life (Jan. 17)- What can I say? I love the Bad Boys films. This one coming out in January has me a bit nervous, but I can’t lie – I’m still pretty excited for it. With Gabrielle Union now married to Dwayne Wade, all I want is for some Wade banter between Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. If I get that and nothing else, I will leave the theater a happy man.

The Gentlemen (Jan. 24)- Guy Ritchie back in the London underground with a cast including Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and Colin Farrell. What more could you ask for?

Birds of Prey (Feb. 7)- The trailer looked like it was cut together using ketamine, which is right up my alley. The talk of the town is gonna be Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, but Ewen McGregor as Black Mask really has my attention.

The Invisible Man (Feb. 28)- Wasn’t sure what to think of this until I saw the trailer, which floored me. Leigh Whannell takes The Invisible Man story we’ve seen before and completely turns it for a loop. Expecting great things from Elisabeth Moss in this.

The Way Back (March 6)- Gavin O’ Connor directing shady Ben Affleck is 1000% my kind of language. I’m a sucker for a good redemption story, so this one feels like a home run for me.

A Quiet Place Part II (March 20)- A Quiet Place was one of the biggest surprises of 2018, so there is some serious buzz around the sequel. The Abbott family is back, headlined by Emily Blunt, but new additions Djimon Hounsou and Cillian Murphy have me very interested in where the journey goes this time.

No Time to Die (April 10) – Daniel Craig back as James Bond with Rami Malek as his adversary this time around. Cary Joji Fukunaga takes over the directing duties, and being a huge fan of the first season of True Detective (he directed every episode), it would be a shocker if this wasn’t next level good.

Antlers (April 17)- There isn’t a ton of information on this one but Scott Cooper has a track record that includes Out of the Furnace and Hostiles so I’m in. Not to mention a cast that’s highlighted by Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons.

Black Widow (May 1)- Black Widow finally gets her own film y’all! Not sure what more needs to be said.

Wonder Woman 1984 (June 5)- Truth be told, I was in on this when Blockbuster was featured in the trailer. Don’t get me wrong – I thoroughly enjoyed the first Wonder Woman, but I mean, it’s BLOCKBUSTER. Take that then add cast additions Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal for good measure in this guaranteed money maker.

Tenet (July 17)- Another title that not a lot is known about. We do know it’s directed by Christopher Nolan and that is really all I need.

The King’s Man (Sept. 18)- I love the Kingsman films, so it’s no surprise this made the list. Ralph Fiennes takes the lead in this prequel which is co-written/directed by Matthew Vaughn like the previous two. I’m really excited to see what he gives us in this setting.

The Many Saints of Newark (Sept. 25)- Maybe my most anticipated film of the year. The prequel to The Sopranos has a serious cast helmed by Alan Taylor, who directed more than a handful of episodes. Jon Bernthal playing Tony Soprano’s father Johnny Boy feels like a gift from the movie/TV gods.

Last Night in Soho (Sept. 25)- Edgar Wright is back! This time around, he seems to be in his psychological horror bag, which tells me we’re getting something stupid crazy. At this point, anything he puts out is guaranteed to have people talking.

Venom 2 (Oct. 2)- You know, I really enjoyed Venom. Maybe it’s because I’m a huge Tom Hardy fan, but I liked far more than I didn’t. Tom is back along with Woody Harrelson who has to be having a blast playing Carnage in this bad boy. Andy Serkis taking over as director shouldn’t be overlooked as the huge upgrade it is.

The Witches (Oct. 9)- The Witches scared the shit out of me as a kid. There…now that we’re through that, you see why I’m so interested in this remake. They got Anne Hathaway in the Anjelica Huston role as the main witch, so that’s probably gonna crush in it’s own right.

Halloween Kills (Oct. 16)- I would have been totally cool with it if 2018’s venture back to Halloween was the end. I liked how they brought us back to that world and really liked the ending. That said, I’m down for a sequel. I enjoyed so much of what they gave us last time that I’m interested to see where they take us this time around before closing this Halloween story out in next year’s Halloween Ends.

Those Who Wish Me Dead (Oct. 23)- Anything that Taylor Sheridan puts out, whether he’s writer, director or both has my money. He’s been putting all his energy into Yellowstone on the small screen, but is back with this Angelina Jolie led western set in Montana.

Dune (Dec. 18)- Denis Villeneuve is one of my favorite directors in the game right now. I loved what he did with Blade Runner, so I can’t think of anyone better to take on this classic sci fi book. With the stellar cast he’s brought in, expect a lot of talk about this one at the end of the year.

Coming 2 America (Dec. 18)- R rated Eddie Murphy is back! Not only back but he’s giving us the sequel we didn’t know we needed. Eddie, along with Arsenio Hall, will return to America in search of the son that Prince Akeem (Eddie) never knew about. Can’t wait.
