2019 NFL MVP Watch: Final Standings

Welcome in to the 2019 NFL MVP Watch, where I will be taking a look around the landscape of the MVP race in the NFL this season. This is pretty much the same thing as my Heisman Watch, sooooo…like, do I want to spend a lot of time on an intro?

Shit, I guess I will for the uninitiated – each week, I will count down the five most MVP-worthy performances of the week and offer up my reasoning for each ranking. You finish first, you get five points. Second is four, so on and so forth. I will keep the season point totals going at the bottom of the article and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points gets the 2019 SoBros Network NFL MVP “honors.”

2019 NFL MVP WATCH: WEEK 17

5. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dolphins QB – I’m beginning to think Fitzpatrick is going to play forever. It makes no sense – dude goes 28/41 for 320 yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown as the Dolphins (for some reason) beat the Patriots 27-24, forcing the defending Super Bowl champs to play in Wild Card Weekend for what feels like the first time in forever.

4. Deebo Samuel, 49ers WR – It’s hard to pick the MVP candidate from that big time win over the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. But, I absolutely love the way the 49ers are using Samuel. This guy’s going to be an absolute stud. 102 receiving yards, 33 rushing yards, and a rushing TD set the Niners up for a solid night.

3. Ryan Tannehill, Titans QB – What Tannehill has done since becoming the Titans starter is astonishing. His 117.5 passer rating leads the NFL, and if you project his touchdown numbers out over the course of a 16-game season, he’d be right there with Lamar Jackson atop the league. It’s crazy! Against the Texans, he went 13/20 for 198 yards and two touchdowns.

2. Drew Brees, Saints QB – The things Brees has done since returning from injury have been outright amazing. Playing for the chance of a first round bye, he threw three more touchdowns in the Saints 42-10 rout of the free-falling Carolina Panthers.

1. Derrick Henry, Titans RB – 211 yards and three touchdowns for King Henry, who ended up claiming the NFL Rushing Title on his 53-yard touchdown run that sealed the game (and a wild card berth) for the Titans. This Titans offense looks incredibly explosive, and could cause fits for the Patriots on Saturday. Henry is the key cog.
