Bong Joon-ho and the entire #BongHive behind what is now your reigning Best Picture, Parasite, rolled in deep to the Oscars last night and left with the collective heart of everyone who watched the ceremony. You could just feel the love for this film and this group of filmmakers in the room with every win that came their way….and boy there were plenty of wins for this group.

Parasite made history as the first foreign language feature to win Best Picture at the Oscars. It also marked the first Oscar for South Korea. But, it also took home the award for the best original screenplay, best international film, and Bong Joon-ho pulled the upset, and took home Best Director as well.
Keeping up with social media, the opinions of other critics, and just listening to the vibe in that room, this felt like the first time I can remember everyone really getting behind this one movie. Even the people who were saying, “not what I would’ve voted for,” were at least acknowledging what a well deserved moment this was for Joon-ho and his team.
And, then you saw his acceptance speeches and it absolutely melted your heart. Seeing him so graciously accept those awards, being caught on camera absolutely enamored by his trophy, honoring the great Martin Scorsese in his speech, suggesting they cut the Oscar into five pieces to give to all of the other nominated directors, and of course, citing that he was ready to drink until the next morning.
How can you not love this guy?

I know that’s one after party I would’ve wanted to be at. The Parasite team was ready to drink ’em dry last night.

Has anyone checked on Bong Joon-ho this morning? This man is a national treasure, and we must protect him at all costs. He was so ready to party last night that I fully expect to see him discovered on the roof of some hotel like The Hangover.
