The 2020 Scenic City Invitational is set for Friday July 31st and Saturday August 1st, LIVE from the Soddy Daisy High School in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. The SoBros Network team will be on hand to cover all of the action – be it the tournament or our cake choices at City Cafe. The field is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet, so let’s dive right into those announced so far.
2020 SCENIC CITY INVITATIONAL FIELD
Entrant #1: Johnathan Wolf (Twitter) – Wolf has been on an absolute tear since he YEETED himself through Kevin Ku and a bunch of chairs at the 2019 SCI Futures Showcase. He and IFHY partner Shawn Kemp put on a banger against Violence Is Forever that afternoon. Wolf has gotten looks in GCW since then, in addition to he and Kemp showing up and running roughshod in SUP. He’s one of the brightest rising stars on the scene right now. He earned this opportunity by winning the Punch Your Ticket Match at Tank’s Scenic City Throwdown back in October.
Entrant #2: Benjamin Carter (Twitter) – You want to talk about some of the hottest rising stars on the scene? You can’t have that conversation without mentioning Carter. He’s another guy that stood out at the 2019 SCI Futures Showcase, and has been making waves down in ACTION Wrestling for quite a while now. People are talking about his match with B-Boy from ACTION Wrestling’s 2/7/20 show as a potential ‘Match of the Year’ contender. I can’t wait to see what this guy can do in a tournament like SCI.
Entrant #3: Daniel Makabe (Twitter) – Well, well, well…the reigning SCI Tournament Champion is returning to defend his crown. Makabe put on one of the gutsiest performances I’ve ever seen when he won the 2019 SCI with half of his damn ear hanging off. Lately, he’s returned to the south and had ‘Match of the Year’ contenders against Curt Stallion at New South and Kevin Ku in SUP. If anyone can be the first to repeat, it’s “The Wrestling Genius.”
Entrant #4: O’Shay Edwards (Twitter) – “The Big Bad Kaiju” will be making his way back to the Scenic City to compete in the SCI for the second consecutive year. In 2019, Edwards made it all the way to the finals after impressive wins over J.D. Drake and Matt Tremont. Since then, he’s captured gold in the Grapitol Region, winning the championship at Prime Time Pro Wrestling. He has to immediately be considered among the favorites for this tournament.
Entrant #5: B-Boy (Twitter) – The South loves B-Boy! A surprising first round exit from last year’s SCI led to the highly anticipated rematch between B-Boy and Brett Ison. But, that victory wasn’t enough for the veteran, who will be returning to the Scenic City in an attempt to win the whole damn thing this year. He was my dark horse pick in 2019, and just may be my dark horse pick in 2020, too.
Entrant #6: “Big Beef” Gnarls Garvin (Twitter) – Big Beef competed in one of the best matches of SCI weekend 2019. This year, he’s made it to the big dance. He’s been proving himself all over the region, and enters the field as one of the big time fan favorites. If he gets on a roll, he’s built to make a deep run in a tournament such as this one. BEEF!
