Man, it has been one hell of a week here ’round SoBros HQ. I’ve been bouncing around from Brandon’s house to my mom’s place in Gladeville, to my aunt and uncle’s place out in Smyrna because my girlfriend and I live pretty close to one of the areas heavily impacted by Tuesday morning’s tornadoes in Nashville. No power, no internet, nothing. I’ve been driving around with a backpack containing a change of clothes and all my work gear for three days now. But, don’t get me wrong. We’re incredibly grateful to be okay. There are a lot of people hit a lot worse than we were and I’m getting out today and all weekend to help with the relief effort (volunteer at Hands On Nashville).
The support of this team has been moving. Mose and I wanted to keep the streak going on Checks and Championships. We tried to make it happen, at the very least, over the phone on Wednesday night, but the service was terrible. Apparently, there was some sort of strain on Verizon’s network (and TMobile and Comcast if you believe the Facebook rumors)? I had no internet, so that ruled out Skype. I had to make that call and tell him we couldn’t get it done, and it sucked. That dude has been working so hard to make Checks and Championships something worth listening to. I felt like I let him down a bit.
Thankfully, during get check time, a new superstar emerged from the ashes to shoulder the load. That’s right, Haley (Mose’s wife) stepped up big time in my absence, and Mose put a microphone down and recorded it all.
On this episode of Checks and Championships, Mose and Haley talk about their favorite moments in The Basement East, our beloved venue we’ve come to adore for hosting Southern Underground Pro that was leveled in the tornado.
Then, they shift gears and talk about our experience at the Paradigm Pro show and recap the night. Spoiler alert: it was downright fun as fuck, and yes…I did drink a lot of gin.
Also, my apologies for the volume of the first commercial. Just be ready for it. Those are added in by the network post production, so I have no control over that.
