When you think of Pixar, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Is it Toy Story? Is it Finding Nemo? Is it the connection to Disney? Could it even possibly be Steve Jobs? Or, are you like us….wondering what this whole thing would’ve looked like had A Bug’s Life been the first Pixar film instead of Toy Story? There are plenty of things to think about when it comes to this brand that has become synonymous with the art of the computer-animated feature, and the art of tugging at our heart strings to boot.
Well, with Onward hitting theaters last weekend (to a rather disappointing draw at the box office), our resident film critic, Brandon Vick, and I thought it would be the perfect time to dive into some of the company’s history…how the idea of what would eventually become Pixar, and what would eventually become Toy Story, started in earnest in the 1970s and progressed to what it is today.
Then, we get into some of the highest grossing and highest rated Pixar films that have been produced. Likewise, we look at some of the “busts,” and everything in between. We wrap things up by providing our own Mount Rushmore of Pixar flicks…each picking our four favorite movies from the company’s extensive catalog…though neither of us is going to argue if you just want to make that Mount Rushmore out of all four Toy Story films.
