With some big time players available, the Tennessee Titans elected to bolster their offensive line by selecting Isaiah Wilson, the offensive tackle from the Georgia Bulldogs at #29 in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Wilson is a big broad boi at 6’6″ and 350 pounds. That is one hog that’s gonna be hard to move. He’s an ideal right tackle prospect, and that size puts him among the elite.
With the Titans, I expect he’ll come in and compete with Dennis Kelly right away to start at right tackle. Your first round picks are expected to make an impact right away. I don’t love it, to be honest with you guys. Kelly was poised to get his chance and has proven capable of handling himself on that side of the line. That afforded the Titans the luxury of taking the best player available and really beefing up other areas of the roster. It’s also a deep tackle class, so they could’ve gotten a good value later on. The only thing I can think of is that they value Kelly in his “6th man” role so much that they didn’t want to take him out of it. I don’t know.
The philosophy, I guess, is simple – we’re gonna run the ball….we gotta make sure we got plenty of big strong bois for our backs to run behind. Isaiah Wilson is definitely a big strong boi.
I just think they needed a cornerback, and can’t believe the caliber of cornerback that fell to ’em, and they just passed on ’em all. They could’ve had the best running back in the draft….an explosive wide receiver….a number of positions that would’ve been better served….instead, they go o-line.
