I have spent 60 fucking dollars on doughnuts this month. But, as you guys know, I’ve been on the food truck game around Nashville ever since the quarantine started. One of the P R E M I E R trucks in all the land happens to be that sweet sweet 100 layer goodness that is the Five Daughters Bakery truck.
What is the 100 layer doughnut, you might ask? This is directly from their website:
This is the Five Daughters Bakery version of a cronut. It is a delicious hybrid of a croissant and a doughnut, and takes up to three days to craft this decadent creation. Once cooked, the 100 layer doughnut is rolled in sugar, filled with cream, and topped with a heavenly glaze. This is one experience you will want to have more than once.
I first heard about Five Daughters through word of mouth a couple of years ago. Now, here we are, checking the BestFoodTrucks map every damn day to see where they’re parked.
Over the course of the last month, my family and I have tried just about all of the flavors – king kong, vanilla cream, carrot cake, maple glaze (I’ve always been a big time maple guy), lemon poppy seed, chocolate sea salt, hopscotch. Hell, let’s just rank ’em while we’re at it. That’s what we do here, after all.
Quick Five Daughters Power Rankings
5. Hopscotch (seasonal)
4. Lemon Poppy Seed (seasonal)
3. King Kong
2. Chocolate Sea Salt
1. Maple Glaze

Food: 7.2/10 – There’s nothing like that 100 layer doughnut-croissant hybrid in Nashville. The fresher, the better. The icing isn’t overbearing. There isn’t too much cream. It is an overall pleasurable experience, regardless of which flavor you go with.
Value: 4/10 – I mean, listen…it’s $5 for a doughnut. Let’s be real here for a minute. Is it the best damn doughnut in Nashville? Sure. Maybe. I won’t argue with that. But, it’s still $5 for a doughnut. For big thicc bois like me, that’s $10 for breakfast, assuming you DON’T get a cup of coffee to go with it! It’s the only drawback, but fuck me if that doesn’t stop me from buying them.
Overall: 5.6/10 – Just so y’all know, I usually have ‘vibe’ and ‘booze’ factored into the rankings, but that obviously isn’t going to apply here. I like Five Daughters a lot – does it make me feel a bit bougie? Sure. But, the quality of the doughnut is worth the price tag. Maybe the takeaway here is that we just need a separate ranking for the sweets? I don’t know. I’ll think about it.
