Nashville Reviews: House of Egg Rolls

Stoney Keeley tracks down the House of Egg Rolls food truck for some fried rice and chicken on a stick on the latest edition of Nashville Reviews!

There aren’t too many food trucks on my list anymore at this point. I’m still checking BestFoodTrucks.com just about every day, but the list is dwindling down. One of the few that I scoped out and put on the must-try list was House of Egg Rolls. A couple of weeks ago, we finally got the break we were looking for when they posted up in Hermitage after what felt like two months straight of parking in the Murfreesboro area.

I think my girlfriend was a little higher on it than I was, but overall, we were far from disappointed. You want to talk about a good junky Chinese food truck? This is it – this really hit the spot. We each ordered the chicken on a stick, served on a bed of fried rice and with an egg roll. Then, we got an order of the crab and cream cheese egg rolls…kinda like crab rangoon in egg roll form.

It appears that House of Egg Rolls doesn’t have a website or anything, so y’all might just have to stick with Best Food Trucks and keep an eye out for them.

Ratings

Food: 5.2/10 – This was a difficult rating to come by. Personally, I thought the rice tasted a bit too oily…like, it had an aftertaste of the pan that it was cooked in. My girlfriend swore I was crazy, so take that with a grain of salt. The quality of the chicken was superior to any other Chinese restaurant in town, and the egg rolls were legit some of the best I’ve ever had. For whatever reason, I just couldn’t get over the aftertaste of that rice. The crab and cream cheese egg rolls were my favorite part of the meal – and were good enough to keep this score from being below average.

Value: 6.1/10 – Given the density of the food we ate, the solid portions they gave us, spending about $30 with a tip felt like a really solid value. No complaints from us whatsoever.

Overall: 5.65/10 – Just so y’all know, I usually have ‘vibe’ and ‘booze’ factored into the rankings, but that obviously isn’t going to apply here. All in all, House of Egg Rolls lived up to the billing when it came to the egg rolls – which, makes sense. If you’re going to call yourself the House of Egg Rolls, you damn well better make a good one. It hits that sweet spot if you’re looking for a good portion of Chinese food, but don’t want to deal with the buffets around town. I’ll be on the lookout for this truck, if for no other reason than the crab and cream cheese egg rolls. Very solid meal.
