Nashville Reviews: Slim Chickens (Mount Juliet)

Stoney Keeley offers up his thoughts on Slim Chickens, some of the best wings and tendies you'll find out in Mount Juliet.

I am all about that tendie life, folks. I eat some good old fashioned chicken tendies at least once or twice a week. Am I giant child parading around as a grown ass man? Probably. But, there’s just something about a big breaded strip of chicken that is comforting. There are some really good sauces out there that allows for a variety of flavors, so it’s one of those meals I never really get tired of. That’s why I was stoked to see Slim Chickens pop up out in Mount Juliet.

I’m a big time Raising Cane’s guy, but we don’t have any of those down here. Zaxby’s can put together a solid tendie meal. But, I’ve yet to find a place to offer a meal that consists of five wings and five tenders. That’s the perfect sweet spot – usually, you’d have to shell out for two entrees and get a ridiculous amount of food to get that, but at Slim Chickens, they give you a nice little portion of each for a good price. My girlfriend got the strawberry chicken salad, and my mom got a tender combo with a side of white gravy (goooooooood stuff).

Food: 6.3/10 – Five wings tossed in mango habanero sauce. Five tendies with the sweet chili sauce on the side. Fries and a slice of Texas toast. $12 – are you kidding me?!?! I’m a big fan of the sauces, and Slim Chickens has a wide array to choose from (up next on my list is the Korean BBQ). Their fries were perfect, the quality of chicken was excellent – this was one sturdy, hearty, and flavorful meal. The mango habanero sauce was marked as one of their hotter sauces, but it wasn’t as spicy as I would’ve liked – definitely could’ve turned it up a notch. The sweet chili sauce was exquisite.

Value: 7/10 – Absolutely incredible these days to get a meal like this for three people for $31. The amount of food you get for the money you pay is surprising. It’s one of the best deals around town.

Overall: 6.65/10 – A+ stuff….a solid dependable meal that left everyone satisfied. The strawberry chicken salad thing was good. The tenders were good. The wings were good. EVERYTHING was good, and the value of it all was excellent. This one’s definitely going in the heavy Mount Juliet rotation along with Catch 22, Kat’s, and The Goat.
