On the fifth of May, every Mexican restaurant and bar is jammed packed with patrons eager to celebrate a holiday the vast majority doesn’t understand. Cinco de Mayo is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.
Despite popular belief, it is actually not a Mexican holiday. The first Cinco de Mayo celebration was in California in 1863. Cinco de Mayo wasn’t even designed to be a day of celebration but rather a day of doing charity work.
We all know why we Americans celebrate the day and that’s to drink. Today’s playlist celebrates all things festive. Taco Tuesday is filled with great drinking songs, sing-a-long classics and some classic Latin jams. So, grab a cold one and enjoy your quarantined Cinco de Mayo safely and responsibly.
