No More Kristen Stewart Slander

Brittany Fernandez is putting her foot down against those who would slander the good name of Kristen Stewart.

Unabashedly, I admit that I love the Twilight franchise. I read all the books and attended all the movie premieres. So, maybe I am a bit biased when my knee jerk reaction is to fight someone when they criticize Kristen Stewart. However, she offers so much more than just being the star of a teen vampire franchise.

Here are a few of my favorite KStew films:

1. Adventureland– Jesse Eisenberg and Stewart have undeniable chemistry, and the greatest evidence of that is their work in Adventureland. Stewart’s character, Em, is relatable, cool as hell, yet still flawed. Her line “You’re not an idiot, I’m a fucking idiot!” is delivered so raw and awkward. It makes the movie that much more believable.

2. The Runaways- I’m not sure anyone could’ve pulled off Joan Jett the way Kristen Stewart did. She even cut her hair and practiced walking like Jett to perfect the role. She killed it.

3. American Ultra- This is another movie with Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart as the lead couple, but this time, add explosions and undercover government agents. You can’t help but care about their characters. It’s a fun and sometimes silly ride.

4. Speak- I’ll suggest any Stewart naysayer watch Speak and then tell me she can’t act. This movie delivers a more serious plot than the others on this list, but it’s still an important one. Stewart’s emotional connection with the audience is extraordinary, and she barely says a word throughout the whole thing. If we want to talk about range, she made this movie the same year she did Catch That Kid.

Other notable films:

5. Seberg- Although Seberg wasn’t the strongest film in regards to direction or the actual screenplay, Stewart’s portrayal of actress Jean Seberg was nothing short of fascinating. Honestly, I think if anyone else starred in this film it would’ve been down right boring. But, Stewart no doubt poured everything into the role.

6. Still Alice- Another film that deals with more serious matters, but absolutely worth the watch. I would suggest having your tissues ready. But, if you’re not feeling up to being completely derailed emotionally, you can look up Stewart’s monologue from the last scene.

7. Panic Room- If you haven’t seen Panic Room in the year 2020, then you are doing yourself a disservice. This is one of Stewart’s earlier movies, but she still delivers a gripping performance even at her young age.

Most of the movies I listed here are testimonials to Stewart’s ability to have chemistry with just about anyone. I know a lot of people complain about her awkward ticks and strange timing, but that’s what sets her apart and makes her relatable.

It’s also been announced that Stewart is going to be portraying Princess Diana in an upcoming movie titled Spencer. There were some people upset at the casting, but I believe she can pull off “stalked and harassed by the media in her personal and daily life” just fine.

Anyway, I leave you with a Rolling Stones music video that stars Kristen Stewart dancing around a gas station, and driving a cool car. You are welcome.
