For the better part of the last century, Mr. Peanut was a staple of Americana. You saw Mr. Peanut, you immediately thought of Planter’s peanuts. Sometimes, you didn’t even have to see him to make that connection. That’s called brand recognition, folks. That’s why those marketing folks get paid the big bucks.
Well, remember a little bit ago, when we thought Mr. Peanut had fucking died? But, in reality, they just rebranded him as Baby Nut….now, apparently, he’s ‘Peanut Jr.’ – I’m having trouble keeping up.
I don’t know what type of affect all that change can have on the peanut’s psyche. I can’t say I’m well-versed in peanut psychology, but judging by one of Baby Nut’s latest tweets, I don’t think all of this change and the pressure of trying to stay relevant in an ever-changing cultural atmosphere have been kind to the mental health of one Peanut, Jr..

What’s that movie where the dude tries to put the cat in the ATM? That’s what this tweet reeks of. Baby Nut is just one snap away from kidnapping a cat and eating it with his bare hands. This just doesn’t seem healthy.
Who looks at a fish bowl in the summer time, filled with cold refreshing intoxicating booze, and thinks, “NAH, PEANUTS?” Even more disturbing – who puts an umbrella in a bowl of peanuts?
I mean, this just doesn’t sound rational. I’m beginning to think we’re one bad break away from Baby Nut going on Good Morning America and singing some weird song that he wrote.
Can someone please check on this kid? The future of marketing in the United States of America depend upon it.
