Clyde Edwards-Helaire Absolutely Jacked up the Texans Last Night

The Kansas City Chiefs showed off their shiny new toy, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, last night and SPOILER ALERT: he actually wrecked the Texans.

Welcome to the NFL, Clyde Edwards-Helaire! Holy shit – what a debut! It certainly feels good to have football back. That is, unless you are a fan or member of the Houston Texans. That final score says 34-20, but anyone that actually watched the game knows that it was in no way, shape, or form that close. The Texans scored first, and then the Kansas City Chiefs went on to score 31 unanswered because that’s what the Chiefs do.

Deshaun Watson was fighting for his life behind a shitty offensive line performance. The Chiefs defense bowed up and bent Tytus Howard, in particular, over the barrel and showed him the 50 states. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess – Watson scrambling around because the Texans would rather invest in Randall Cobb (Two catches, 23 yards) instead of elite offensive line talent. Watson was sacked four times and threw an interception that was the direct result of pressure allowed by that line.

Ya hate to see it.

But, what stood out to me the most about last night’s game is the dynamic that CEH adds to that Chiefs offense. It’s one game – obviously you don’t want to overreact too much. But, you can’t deny that that was one hell of a start, and you can see the vision behind drafting him. 25 carries, 138 yards, and a touchdown – it could’ve easily been two touchdowns if he had been able to punch that one in on the goal line late in the game.

It’s incredible – this dude is built rock solid, but he’s so compact that it allows him to play so slippery. The guy is shifty and able to evade tacklers. He has the speed to break away in space, and the strength to make it hard to bring him down.

This type of running back adds a different dimension to an already electric Chiefs offense. CEH proved he can give this offense a grittier and tougher element. Play-makers across the board, the best quarterback in the league, and now you’re adding a back that can carry motherfuckers with him down the field….a guy that people don’t want to tackle, and even if they do, they can’t.

I loved watching him rule that game last night. He’s a fun player to watch – also, shout out to that Chiefs offensive line. All in all, it was a dominant performance, and the Chiefs are already picking up right where they left off in 2019.

I called Clyde Edwards-Helaire the Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite right after the NFL Draft, and well – don’t think I won’t take every victory lap I can. I have to remind y’all of that. So far, so good.
