Not a great start to our Thursday, but something all Tennessee Titans fans should have been prepared to hear from the moment this story broke. Playing on Sunday was virtually impossible. Playing on Monday or Tuesday was a best case scenario if the Titans were able to contain the spread and not have anyone else come down with the ‘rona.
That wasn’t the case.
Another player and another personnel member have tested positive for the COVID-19, bringing the total infected to 11. Yeah – that means NO GAME this week. Enjoy the other games this week, folks…
Per the NFL, in a press release, and yes, I get the NFL press releases because I am a Big J Journalist:
The Pittsburgh-Tennessee game scheduled for Week 4 will be rescheduled to later this season after one additional Titans player and one personnel member tested positive for COVID-19 today. An announcement of the new game date will be made shortly.
The decision to postpone the game was made to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel. The Titans facility will remain closed and the team will continue to have no in-person activities until further notice.
A lot of talk about shuffling bye weeks around and playing this on Week 7. There’s a report going around that the date will be announced shortly (I’ll keep this post updated when we get it). But, honestly – I’m a fan of just putting this off until the end of the season. Push the playoffs back a week (or two depending on how many teams end up getting hit like this), and wait to see if the games have playoff implications.
Let’s make sure the game is absolutely necessary before we ask these boys to risk injury to play.
