How the Hell Did Nashville Land This Picasso Exhibit?

Check out some vintage Pablo Picasso at this upcoming exhibit at the Frist in Nashville.

We say it all the time here at SoBros Network – “Nashville is so much more than just country music.” Take the Frist Art Museum, for example. Opened in 2001, the Frist gives Nashville a bona fide art exhibition hall. There’s no regular collection – instead, they rotate exhibits in and out over time. There’s always something going on, and I know a couple of members that swear by their lazy afternoons perusing the hall.

Now, it looks like the Frist is getting a hell of an exhibit starting on February 5th. Nashville will be the only city in the United States to land the ‘Picasso. Figures‘ exhibit.

The works of Pablo Picasso are coming to the United States, but only for a limited time and just in one city.

The Frist Art Museum in Nashville will host an exhibition February 5 through May 2 on loan from the Musee National Picasso-Paris. The exhibition, Picasso. Figures, will feature 75 paintings, works on paper, and sculptures focused on the human figure.

Picasso – big time art name. Big time art guy. Is he going to be there? Painting something new? Will there be a meet and greet?

That joke didn’t quite land the way I wanted it to. That’s hard to do in written word sometimes, much less when I’m writing about something that isn’t sports and reeling people in that might not be too familiar with what I do here at SoBros Network. But, I’m cracking myself up thinking about someone honestly believing Picasso would be at the Frist painting caricatures of you and your girlfriend like it’s Panama City Beach or something..

Look, I love my city. I’ve always said it – if you can put up with the silencing of science and reason, Nashville is a really fun town to live in. I’m all for gaining access to stuff like this – I’ve already told my fiancé that we’re going. It’s not every day you get to see Pablo Picasso. But….and this is a big but….are we really sure Nashville has earned this?

Maybe I should ask my friends that are more plugged into the art scene here, but has Nashville progressed to the point that we can get butts in seats for Picasso? I don’t know. I just think about all of the big art cities in the United States and think, “why’d y’all choose Nashville?”

I’m celebrating this as a win. Hell, I won’t be celebrating a Titans championship because they were bounced in the first round. The Preds probably aren’t winning anything. Maybe ‘getting Picasso at the Frist’ can be Nashville’s big win for 2021.
