Antoine Winfield Jr. didn't forget about Tyreek Hill throwin' the deuce at him during the regular season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are celebrating a championship after dominating the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9, in Super Bowl LV. It was master class in defense from defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and that entire Bucs defense, a unit that has been fun to watch all postseason long. It was clear from several of the Bucs’ postgame press conferences that this unit was tired of hearing about how unstoppable the Chiefs offense is. Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. had a little bit of extra motivation in this one as well – further exemplifying this chip on the collective shoulder of the Bucs.

Winfield was flagged for taunting after breaking up a pass intended for Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill. As Hill got back to his feet, he was greeted with two fingers in his face – Winfield was throwing the duece right back at Hill after Hill did the same to him during the regular season meeting between these two teams.

In the moment, it seemed like a pretty egregious error – a dumb penalty that could’ve cost the Bucs greatly if the game was closer. But, in context, I’m here for the Antoine Winfield Jr. revenge tour. Maybe next time Hill will think before he showboats and disrespects a guy like that. The Bucs were up by 22 late in the fourth quarter, and it looked like the Chiefs had all but officially thrown in the towel. Everyone watching that game knew it was over – the Bucs defense just had the Chiefs gridlocked. There was nothing they could do. so, why not take the opportunity to dig in and get a little revenge? That’s some top notch revenge right there – you get to rub it in during the biggest game of the year when you just so happen to be dominating the guy? Yes, king – twist that knife.

Winfield was asked about it after the game, and he was pretty transparent about the incident:

Let ’em know people don’t forget about this kind of stuff. I’m 100% okay with given the context of how and why it happened. Antoine Winfield Jr. is an absolute stud, he’s one of the building blocks this Bucs defense has for the future.
