Listen, we’re nothing if not transparent here at SoBros Network. I think that’s important these days, y’know? You gotta be willing to acknowledge when you get something wrong. How else are people going to grow to trust you? I mean, hell – no one’s NEVER wrong. Plus, it’s just funny to look back at some of the things I’ve said that look hilariously and embarrassingly ridiculous now that the season’s over with. So, this is one of those posts I have to get done every year – let’s take a look at all the things I got wrong about the 2020 Tennessee Titans.

Things I Got Wrong About the 2020 Titans

Clowney is the “missing piece” – Man, I doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled down on this take. I thought adding Jadeveon Clowney made this team a bona fide Super Bowl contender because of the way he played. I thought it was just what the Titans needed to complete their defense. It was the move that had me predict the Titans would actually make it to the Super Bowl to face off against the New Orleans Saints prior to the season starting. Now, I don’t think Clowney was necessarily as bad as a lot of folks say, but he damn sure wasn’t winning this franchise any Super Bowl, and now, the idea that he would make the Titans a contender is laughable.

Landry and Beasley are sufficient at EDGE – I don’t even want to read this one over again. Just let me acknowledge that I actually said it and move on. Vic Beasley is one of if not the biggest free agent bust in this franchise’s history.

Leadership is underrated – Get young. Get cheaper. It doesn’t matter that guys like Jurrell Casey, Logan Ryan, and Wesley Woodyard have a wealth of experience. It’s about getting that next wave ready! At least, that’s how I approached the Titans’ decision to move on from each of those guys. After hearing Titans defenders repeatedly talk about communication issues, I’m beginning to think that that defense probably could’ve used some guys like these in 2020.

Kevin Byard is the best safety in the league – Oh boy. Hey, give me a break. It’s not like I was the only one saying this, and it’s not like ANY of us predicted the gigantic fall-off that Byard would have in 2020.

Rashaan Evans’ breakout season – I wrote a piece prior to the season calling Evans the Titans’ candidate for a ‘breakout season’ on defense. He struggled early on in his career, but really seemed to get right in 2019. I felt like he was poised to take the next step in 2020, but it never happened. In fact, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that he actually regressed. He was good in short yardage and goal-line situations, but that’s about it. Now, questions surround his long-term future and I could not have been more wrong about his 2020 season.

Kalif Raymond is the “secret weapon” – Guilty as charged. You got me. I watched Raymond develop throughout 2019 and thought he’d take a big leap forward in 2020. But, man – was that a miss or what? Raymond never really made his presence felt on offense, catching nine passes for 187 yards all season.

Cole McDonald – Finally, I just want to mention how stoked I was for the Titans to draft Hawaii quarterback Cole McDonald, only for them to give him the Luke Falk treatment and ditch him before he ever got going. It’s still a shame if you ask me….
