Welcome into the kitchen at SoBros HQ – we’re takin’ some of our favorite things to make and sharing it with our most loyal readers (that’s you). Simple recipes, for easy, fulfilling dinners – that’s our aim with the SoBros Recipe Book.
Listen…if you guys have made it to the SoBros Patreon, I have no doubt in my mind that you’re already familiar with #GinFriday. But, I’m just going to say it again for the people in the back.
#GinFriday is all about taking a moment for yourself at the end of another long hard work week. It’s about taking the time to decompress, to reflect upon the week that was and whether or not you made the most of the time you had. It’s about celebrating the victories, celebrating your loved ones, and yes…in general, celebrating life. And yes, we do wave at the haters – just to let them know we are unbothered. Do we have haters? No….not really, anyway. I just think it’s funny.
It doesn’t have to be gin, by the way. I don’t know if I’ve ever even told you guys that….we’ve had #BourbonFriday, #WineFriday, and #OldFashionedFriday in the same spirit. I just happen to be a massive gin fan – I can’t even count how many different brands and flavors I’ve tried at this point. Just something about the botanicals that make it more of a total sensory experience for me – the fragrance, the flavor, a G&T is way more refreshing than a lot of drinks…I don’t know – I’ve just always been a fan.
And, after all these years, folks – I think I’ve finally found my go-to…dare I say…”perfect” gin and tonic.
What you’ll need:
- Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger gin (link)
- Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic (link)
- Portland Syrups Rose City Tonic (link)
How to do it:
This one’s pretty well up to you guys. We’re all adults that can pour our own drinks – my only hard rule with this one is that you have to be C A R E F U L with the Rose City Tonic. That shit is potent. So if you put any more than a splash in your G&T, it’s going to taste like you’re drinking straight syrup – found this one out the hard way.
My method is to start with ice in a glass. Pour a nice amount of tonic for a base. Then add in about a shot (more often than not, two) of gin. Fill the rest of the glass with tonic. Add a splash of the Rose City. Stir. That’s it. But, of course, I’ll leave it up to you guys for your own desirable gin-to-tonic ratio.
I haven’t tried this one with a lime wedge yet so I can’t in good conscience recommend it. I might have to update this “recipe” later on. But, yeah – that’s it. It’s all about the ingredients – if you can find ’em, I’d say give this one a shot and let me know what you think.
