The Miami Dolphins absolutely knocked it out of the park last night, selecting former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Jaylen Waddle with the 6th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. I absolutely love the move – the Dolphins are trying to elevate their franchise into playoff contention, and they weren’t too far off a season ago. With a young quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa, it makes all the sense in the world to stockpile talent around him and inject that offense with some raw speed.
Waddle was my favorite wide receiver in this entire draft class, not only because of his speed, but because of the way he runs his routes, and the dynamic element he adds to your football team in the return game as well. Waddle can do it all, and he can do it all well. This is a blue chip prospect that is a franchise-changer. Some folks have their questions about Tagovailoa, but I think he’ll be just fine, especially now that he’s reuniting with his former Tide teammate.
But, Waddle created one of the most hilarious moments of the draft last night when he was selected, and just stood up and walked towards the stage like he was on a mission.

The sunglasses. The head flip. That man said “to hell with y’all – the bright lights are calling.” He looked directly ahead, and then like the damn Terminator, just snapped that head to the left and walked right by everyone trying to celebrate. Cold as hell. COLD AS HELL.
This is what it looks like when you’re a bad man, and you know you’re a bad man. Who needs family? You’re a Miami Dolphin. You don’t have time to stop and hug these leeches. You’re a top 10 pick in the NFL Draft. Look at you. You are the captain now. Leave the jumping around and yelling for these peasants in the green room. They are beneath you now. The only thing that would’ve made this better is if Waddle would’ve actually curled his lip up like he smelled something bad. I dare say he could’ve worked in a raised pinky finger somewhere, too. I love the NFL Draft so much.
The Dolphins followed up the selection of Jaylen Waddle by taking pass rusher Jaelan Phillips. No word yet as to whether or not Phillips dropped such a cold shoulder on his own loved ones.
