The food truck bug bit again. At this point, I’m running out of food trucks to try. It’s rare that one posts up east of town that I haven’t tried, but when I see one, I pounce on it. A couple of weeks ago, Yayo’s OMG (Original Mexican Gourmet) was posted up in the Donelson area, and it just so happened to be date night. If you can find me a better night than ordering way too much food from a food truck and chilling on the couch all night, please let me know…’cause I don’t believe one exists. Anyway, Yayo’s was a truck I hadn’t heard a whole lot of hype about, but looking over the menu, I felt like it was one of the strongest taco menus in town. I found it hard to pin down exactly what I wanted to try, and we ended up with NINE TACOS because of it (long hair, don’t care – I’ll just be fat forever). This is what we do for the sake of #journalism, folks. For more on Yayo’s OMG, check ’em out on their website. Now, let’s get to what you came here for – food pics!

Food: 5.8/10 – Probably one of the best shrimp tacos I’ve ever had in this city. The quality of the meat on all of the tacos stood out to me, but particularly, the shrimp was aces. The aioli is what tied that whole taco together for me. I’m a big time chorizo guy, too. And, they absolutely loaded that taco up with chorizo. Like, “get the Tums ready” levels of chorizo. And, don’t get me wrong – that’s an endorsement, not a complaint. I will put myself in an early grave eating too much chorizo. The churro bites were the perfect dessert. A very satisfying meal for both my fiancé and myself.

Value: 6.4/10 – They could’ve charged me $100 for the churro bites, shrimp tacos, and chorizo tacos alone and I would’ve called it the deal of the century. The bill was $48.12, but I also got way more food than two people need because I wanted to get a wide variety of food into this review – we got nine tacos…NINE tacos, and the churro bites for that. And, like I said, they didn’t skimp on the meat at all. I feel like most normal folks would get half the food, spend half of that, and be just as happy.

Overall: 6.1/10 – Look – if you’re in the taco game, this is a solid, quality meal. At most taco places around town, you’re going to be dealing with a grease factor. Pack the napkins. But, to be as good as these tacos were, I noticed they didn’t make a mess at all. It was a satisfying meal, and while the shrimp and chorizo tacos were the real highlights, if you’re going to do Yayo’s OMG, you GOTTA do the churro bites. For reference, this grade puts Yayo’s OMG around CHIVANADA, 1 Spudtacular Food Truck, The Grilled Cheeserie, and The Tennessee Cobbler Company on my list of Nashville Reviews – solid company for a solid truck. I look forward to trying that Legend Taco (brisket, chorizo, and chicharron) and the Sonora Taco (steak, pico, guacamole sauce) in the future!
