Titans Draft Roundup: J.C. Jackson, MORE Wide Receivers, and 3rd String QB

This week's Titans Draft Roundup is OUT!

Welcome to the weekly Tennessee Titans draft roundup for the 2021 NFL Draft. Over the course of the next several weeks, I’ll be releasing this column once a week with my very professional journalism opinions. You’ll find everything from rumors to wild speculation to actual analysis (sometimes). Titan up!

*I keep seeing these takes about the Titans draft – “Titans go all-defense in the latest two-round mock” or “Titans replenish their offense in this three-round mock in which they take two wide receivers and a tight end in the first three rounds” or some shit like that. Am I crazy to think that the Titans won’t focus on one side of the ball in the draft? Is that nonsense? May I suggest that they might just pick the best players available at positions of need where the value fits? Am I the only one seeing this? Am I losing my mind? Just a random thought to start this week’s column.

*J.C. Jackson is a wild card here that I keep seeing you guys chatting about. Personally, I like the idea of a player of his ilk joining the secondary, as it might alleviate some of the pressure to get another top-three caliber corner in the draft. Jackson is coming off a career year with the New England Patriots, who placed a 2nd round tender on him. The Patriots would get the opportunity to match any offer that comes in for the guy, and should the offer not be matched, whoever ended up with Jackson would have to forfeit a 2nd round pick to the Pats. Is it worth it for the Titans to have a little peace of mind at the position? Maybe. If you’re asking for my take, I say “do it if you can.”

*So far, I’ve written about WR Jaylen Waddle and CB Greg Newsome (both linked below) as first round options for the Titans. I only covered Waddle because someone actually mocked him falling to the Titans at #22, but I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of that happening. If it did, though…man, talk about a dynamic weapon to pair opposite A.J. Brown. I love the variety of ways Waddle could be used in the NFL. As for Newsome, I’m starting to see a lot more draft analysts mock the Northwestern corner to the Titans. There are so many directions they could go at corner, but Newsome certainly fits the bill as a strong pure cover guy, which is what this defense needs. More reports coming soon – keep an ear to the ground on the SoBros Network dot com machine.

*After you cut Dennis Kelly, and Isaiah Wilson completely implodes, there’s now a huge question mark at right tackle that no one seems to be talking about. You guys may groan, but don’t rule out the possibility that the Titans take a tackle in the first round. TreJean Watkins wrote an excellent piece examining the Titans options at the position for Broadway Sports.

*Mike Moraitis of Titans Wire put together a fun little piece on the Titans’ history of fourth-round draft picks since 2000. Lavelle Hawkins hive UNITE!

*Purdue WR Rondale Moore popped up in a recent CBS mock draft as the pick for the Titans at #22. At this point, we’re going to have to be ready to talk about literally any wide receiver in this draft, aren’t we?

*One of my favorite parts of being a Titans fan during the draft process is trying to get a read on which quarterback the Titans will draft and tell us they plan on developing, only for them to cut the guy before the season starts. Luke FalkCole McDonald…who is ultimately going to be the guy that paves the way for a Trevor Siemian to come in as the third string quarterback? We know it’s going to happen – it is as inevitable as Thanos. I’m going on record with my guess for 2021: Shane Buechele of SMU.

*As it stands, the Titans currently have picks in the 2021 NFL Draft:

  • 1st round, 22nd overall
  • 2nd round, 53rd overall
  • 3rd round, 85th overall
  • 3rd round, 100th overall
  • 4th round, 126th overall
  • 5th round, 166th overall
  • 6th round, 205th overall
  • 6th round, 215th overall
  • 7th round, 232nd overall
