Someone Has to Tell Jon Robinson There Are Better Bodies of Water to Enjoy Than Percy Priest Lake

Jon Robinson probably STILL smells like Percy Priest Lake after dealing for Julio Jones from a pontoon boat over the weekend.

The Tennessee Titans have been the NFL’s topic of discussion this week after general manager Jon Robinson, that wheelin’ dealin’ sonofagun, was at it again, trading for wide receiver Julio Jones. I absolutely love the move – Jones still has plenty to give. Even in limited action due to a hamstring injury in 2020, Jones was highly effective when he saw the field. Plus, this signifies that Robinson and Mike Vrabel understand that this team’s championship window is wide open, but it won’t be forever. It’s an aggressive “win now” move that indicates this regime thinks it’s pretty damn close to a Super Bowl. That’s exciting! But, there’s one tidbit from this story that I don’t feel like we’re talking about enough – the fact that Robinson apparently conducted this deal from a pontoon boat out on Percy Priest Lake on Saturday.

Listen, I’ve lived in this area for all 34 years of my life. I’ve made the mistake of swimming in Percy Priest Lake a handful of times and I’ve regretted it every single time. It’s the kind of lake that you jump in and smell like for a week afterwards. You just have to accept the fact that you’re going to smell like sewage and rotten fish after you’ve taken a dip in that lake. For a broke ass redneck kid like me, that was always fine. I was willing to sacrifice that smell and maybe even my general health to a degree for the ability to jump in a nearby body of water because I didn’t have gas money to drive to a REAL lake like Center Hill Lake (Old Hickory Lake isn’t much better…). But, Jon Robinson is the damn general manager of the Tennessee Titans. Why is anyone letting this man get out on that toxic water? This man should have a police escort to Center Hill Lake. Hell, get him a helicopter…whatever it takes. I like Robinson – I want him to have a lengthy career here with the Titans. I don’t want him to succumb to diaper water.

I once had a neighbor that was new to town – I didn’t think to warn him about Percy Priest Lake being a giant toilet. I came home one day to find him carrying a couple of fish back to the apartment. After talking to him, I learned that he was an avid fisherman and was ecstatic to be within walking distance of a lake. He was on his way back to fry up his catch. The next day, I caught up with him and asked him how his dinner was. His reply was something along the lines of, “I started cooking those fish and they smelled rotten – I couldn’t even eat them.” He threw ’em in the damn dumpster right outside our building, and that stench permeated the air for a week afterwards. Let this be a cautionary tale.

There is no doubt about it – Jon Robinson has knocked this offseason out of the park for the Titans. But, we need to let this man know that there are better bodies of water in Tennessee than Percy Priest Lake. Hell, he’s a Tennessee boy. He should know – he grew up in Union City, near Reelfoot ffs! Then again, maybe all of this is to say that hanging out on Percy Priest Lake is precisely WHY Jon Robinson works so well here in Tennessee. *shrugs* – if you want more on the Julio Jones trade, you can check out the latest episode of The Unofficial Titans Podcast here:
