I’m happy to announce that it is the freaking weekend once again boys and girls. We made it through another week and can now take a deep sigh of relief and turn our focus to what is important and that’s putting our problems as far behind us in the rear view as possible. Let those problems be Monday’s problem. No matter what your plans are for the weekend, just remember to take a moment for yourself whether it’s by giving yourself an at home spa treatment or just laying on a float in the pool. It’s always a good idea to take a little time for yourself before you turn it on and turn it out for the weekend. Like every weekend the most important thing to have with you for a great time is to have an amazing playlist so make sure to check out all the great releases out this week.

We Hate You Please Die Can’t Wait to Be Fine

The sweltering summer heat is becoming unbearable for many of us and has people looking for an outlet for the misery that is building inside. French punk band We Hate You Please Die has a new high energy album that could be the perfect catalyst for releasing that pent-up aggression.

Can’t Wait to Be Fine serves as the band’s follow-up to it’s critically acclaimed album Kids Are Lo-Fi. The 12 songs on the album race through many emotions and genres as it has become pressingly harder to fit the band squarely in one style of music. The band shares its name with a song from the Scott Pilgrim vs the World soundtrack and approached the new album with an anything goes mentality. They clearly rejected having a label forced on them as the album goes from punk to pop to garage leaving the listener feeling confused as the album is sometimes contradictory to itself.

WHYPD seem to embrace the underdog role and are happy to be a voice for the quiet as their songs are full of rage while talking about the fears and doubts we face on a daily basis, and how it is important to stand up and own them so they can no longer being one’s weakness. The title track of the album and lead single puts those fears and doubts on full display while the rage inside of us boils over giving the listener the strength to face the world.

H.E.R. Back of My Mind

Right on the brink of turning 24 years old, H.E.R. has already had a career that most can only dream about. She has already taken home three Grammys and this year added an Academy Award to her growing list of accomplishments.

It is kind of difficult to wrap my head around the fact that H.E.R. has been nominated twice for the Grammy for Album of the Year but her new release Back of My Mind is officially her debut album. If you are as confused as me then please let me explain. Her self-titled 2017 release was a compilation of two previously released Eps and her 2019 release I Used to Know Her was crafted the same way from two other Eps.

H.E.R. has quickly become the queen of downtempo R&B and she has collaborated with a who’s who of producers on the album including Mike Will Made It, Hit-Boy and Kaytranada. She joined forces once again with singer-songwriter Tiara Thomas who co-wrote H.E.R.’s Grammy winning protest song “I Can’t Breathe” and the Oscar winning “Fight for You” from Judas and the Lion to pen nearly half of the albums 21 songs. Along with star-studded producers H.E.R. invited legendary songwriters such as David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager, Julia Michaels and even Minneapolis sound pioneers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis among others to help round out the album.

The album features a creative group of features that fit well with the theme and flow of the album rather than just as a time filler. Ty Dolla $ign is featured on the title track and brings out a rarely seen raw moment from H.E.R. Regardless of if she is joined by someone on a song or all along with her guitar H.E.R. finds herself saying the things that are in the back of her mind on her debut. Back of My Mind is so amazingly crafted that it is almost a guarantee that her debut album will bring her H.E.R. third Album of the Year nomination. @HERMusicx
