Christina Tripp “Push Pull Medicinal”
Recently, I have tried to put more of an emphasis on showcasing some of the unknown artists here in Nashville on New Music Friday. From reading past posts and concert reviews, I have written about Notelle, AG Sully, Houston Kendrick, and Tramp Stamps to name a few.
What the world is learning at the pace of grass growing is that not everything that comes out of Music City is from the world of country music. The pop, hip-hop, electronica, and rock scenes in Nashville are full of talented and hungry singers and musicians looking to break through the ‘Nashville Is Only Country‘ stigma.
Nashville native Christina Tripp is one who is making a name for herself in R&B and has collaborated with many of the other up-and-comers in Nashville. Tripp released the first single from her upcoming EP earlier this year. The upbeat, empowering “I Like Money” is extremely catchy while hiding a deeper meaning. The song teaches the listener to want to strive for the next level and to be a better version of themselves.
Christina is back today with the follow-up single “Push Pull Medicinal.” The EP’s title track finds the singer in a vulnerable state becoming tired of fighting with herself and the inner battle we all have at times. “Push Pull Medicinal” has a sad, mysterious vibe with an extremely personal, meaningful message. The EP is sure to be an emotional rollercoaster and one whose arrival I am anxiously waiting for. @christinaa432
Make sure to add “Push Pull Medicinal” to your library on Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you get your tunes from.
Danny Polo/Landon Sears/CUBE “Prada”
Rising artist Danny Polo has established himself as a driving force not only behind R&B in Music City but also behind the fight against COVID-19. He has been working on the frontlines as a nurse by day while making a name for himself as a rising R&B star in Nashville during his time off. Polo released his debut album in 2020 and has continued to release new music at feverish pace since his debuts release including singles “Queen of the Bronx,” “Truth,” and “Roadblock.”
His newest release finds the singer and frontline hero teaming up with fellow Nashville based songwriter Landon Sears and teen producing sensation CUBE. Sears has written platinum selling songs for K-Pop artist CIX and Kang Daniel. CUBE is a 16-year-old Canadian producer who is turning heads with his skills in front of and behind a microphone.
The trio came together for the song “Prada” in which Polo says he was inspired by a girl he was dating. He began to visualize a life together where they had everything they needed and wanted. “Prada” accomplishes the singer’s goal of the song having an old-school R&B vibe thanks greatly to the production skills of CUBE. If you are looking for a song with a good vibe that you can listen to with that special someone than “Prada” is a perfect addition to your playlist. @dannypololoco @landonator
