SummerSlam on a SATURDAY?!?! What is this? The Twilight Zone? Maybe….now that I think about it….maybe. Nonetheless, WWE’s SummerSlam 2021 is emanating live from Allegiant Stadium out in Las Vegas on Saturday night, and figures to be one of the biggest shows of the year. Traditionally one of the “big five,” there’s just something about SummerSlam that always feels big and special. This year is no different, as we have the return of John Cena to battle the Head of the Table, acknowledged as such, on record this very moment, by SoBros Network, Roman Reigns. It’s a doozy – so you know I had to fire up the old ‘Drinking Game’ gimmick for a show like this. It’s one of if not our most popular bit, after all.
But, there’s a lot to be excited about on this show. To say I’ve become more of a ‘casual fan’ is an understatement as of late. I can’t say for sure that I’ve watched more than 30 minutes of WWE programming since WrestleMania. Honestly, I think that kind of approach helps my enjoyment of the shows when I do decide to tune in. There’s just so much wrestling content out there right now, but that’s a different discussion for a different day. We’re here to have fun this week, and fun we shall have. The current SummerSlam card (always subject to change, of course) is:
- Universal Championship: Roman Reigns vs. John Cena
- Raw Women’s Championship: Nikki A.S.H. vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair
- WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley vs. Goldberg
- SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs. Dominik and Rey Mysterio
- SmackDown Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks
- Edge vs. Seth Rollins
- United States Championship: Sheamus vs. Damian Priest
- Drew McIntyre vs. Jinder Mahal
- Eva Marie vs. Alexa Bliss
- Raw Tag Team Championship: AJ Styles and Omos vs. RK-Bro
As a casual fan with a lot of nostalgic feelings towards wrasslin’ as a whole, I’m just happy it’s SummerSlam. There are a few matches I’m stoked for, but as a whole, I think this looks like a pretty complete card. My old school fandom is saying ‘it ain’t SummerSlam without an Intercontinental Championship match.’ But, who cares? Let’s drink.
WWE SummerSlam 2021 Drinking Game
Take a drink if/when…
- Someone at your party acknowledges the Tribal Chief. Anyone who does not is required to be speared through a drywall panel in your wall.
- A wrestler hits their finisher.
- A wrestler cuts a backstage promo.
- Anyone uses a foreign object (reminder: a ladder is not considered a foreign object in a ladder match).
- You hear the term ‘drip god.’
- Someone makes a big return – either in the ring or in a promo! We’re talkin’ CM Punk, Becky Lynch, the Boogeyman, I don’t care – anyone!
- Someone’s child is knocked out – no, this does not apply only to Rey Mysterio and Goldberg.
- Anyone at your watch party falls asleep during Lashley-Goldberg.
- Someone mentions ‘Hollywood’ and ‘John Cena’ in the same sentence – double drinks if they’re specifically talking about The Suicide Squad.
- Anyone on air makes some wise crack alluding to getting hammered in Las Vegas.
- Randy Orton teases turning on Riddle – double drinks if he actually does.
- MVP gets physically involved in the WWE Championship match.
- Jinder Mahal’s 2017 WWE Championship run is mentioned.
- Someone is sprayed with a water gun.
- The 24/7 Championship is featured in a segment.
- A literal doll is shown on television – double drinks if it blinks at someone.
- There’s a Money In the Bank briefcase cash-in tease – double drinks if there’s actually a cash-in.
- Bianca Belair whips anybody with her hair.
- There’s a botch – either in the ring, in a promo, or on commentary.
Take a shot if/when…
- A title changes hand.
- A match goes 20 minutes or longer.
- Anyone on the entire show bleeds.
- Someone is literally stabbed with a giant sword.
- The Rock shows up in person.
- There’s a big cliffhanger at the end of the show.
Alright, get on that couch and enjoy SummerSlam, but remember – drink responsibly. If you drink, don’t drive. Do the watermelon crawl.
