CFB Roundup: The Oregon Ducks are Legit

The Oregon Ducks, the SEC West, a cat, and Florida State cheerleaders highlight this week's edition of the College Football Roundup.

Let’s dive into the week that was in college football and hit all the highlights on the SoBros Network’s College Football Roundup.

*The Oregon Ducks simply wore down the Ohio State Buckeyes – they put up over 500 yards of total offense, and were effective rushing and passing the ball with balance. Like Georgia-Clemson, this one kind of felt like a de facto College Football Playoff elimination game. I think it’s a lot easier for Ohio State to get back into the race than it is for Clemson given their number of potential quality wins, but this was a big one for the Ducks and the Pac-12. Also, major swag props for leaving the duck at midfield. This Ducks team is a legit contender in the playoff race.

*For whatever reason, Matt Campbell just can’t seem to get it done against Iowa. He’s now 0-5 against Kirk Ferentz‘s Iowa squads. The season’s not over, as they’ll still have a chance to win the Big 12. More than anything, I think this win established the Iowa Hawkeyes as legit players in the Big Ten race.

*Well, we got our annual clip of Nick Saban losing his shit because the Tide isn’t taking an opponent from the FCS seriously. To be fair, I get it – it was a sloppy start against Mercer and they didn’t exactly look like their hearts were in the game. You can survive against a team like Mercer doing that, but the message is simple – you can’t make a habit of buying into your own hype. I guarantee if they show up like that against Florida next weekend, the outcome will be a lot different. Nonetheless, Saban gonna Saban.

*How about Jacksonville State stunning Florida State on the final play of the game and then planting a flag at midfield?

Yeah, same here, Seminoles cheerleaders. Even worse was Mike Norvell‘s explanation of it all: “Ran a two deep man under, tried to get pressure on the quarterback. They still had one time out, so we didn’t go to immediate prevent.” Hey, did anyone tell him that Jacksonville State had about 60 yards to go and only six seconds to work with? Kinda think that’s the exact situation you’d want to run prevent in, but hell – maybe that’s why I’m blogging about college football and not coaching it…

The biggest loser in all of this is Notre Dame, though. Remember how they struggled against this Florida State team and this head coach that apparently doesn’t know when to jump into prevent defense? Yeah, not a good look for the Irish brand to have gutted that one out.

*Man, I can’t wait for the SEC West to start playing each other – of course, not all wins are created equally, but everyone except for LSU is 1-1 in that division and they have five teams in the top 25 in Alabama, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Auburn. As usual, this looks like 9th division in the NFL.

*Speaking of the SEC, I really think Kentucky is going to make the SEC East interesting. Georgia looks like a brick wall, but I would not be surprised to see this Wildcats team win 10 games. Mizzou is a good team, and the Wildcats pulled off a gutsy win against ’em on Saturday night.

*USC’s kicker got ejected for targeting, and the Trojans proceeded to get whooped by a not-too-good Stanford team. Ya hate to see it.

*Shout out to the heroes at the Miami-App State game who saved this cat:

Big time group effort there – no doubt this cat is traumatized, but at least it lives to fight another day. Would they have just happened to have had that American flag if not for the 9/11 tribute? Crazy to think about, but happy that this one had a happy ending.

*Finally, I think this ref is all of us on Sunday morning after we spend all Saturday drinking and betting on college football like the degenerates we are:
