How the Hell Am I Just Now Discovering That Akon Threw a Fan Off the Stage in 2007?

It's Friday - let's relive Akon throwing that kid off stage to send us into our holiday weekend.

What a great story to end the week with and get us into the holiday weekend. Y’all know by now that I have absolutely no problem sharing when I’m a complete idiot. That’s the SoBros way – if I think something that’s stupid, I’m going to share it with you guys because I find that shit hilarious. Like the time I thought they made houses out of prefabricated concrete walls in Oak Ridge to protect the citizens from potential nuclear fallout? I could’ve edited that out of that episode of Phone It In, but no – I thought it was funny what an idiot I was. I make no bones about it – that shit stays in the podcast. Well, we’ve got a similar occurrence to talk about today. Yes, I just now…14 years later….have discovered that Akon threw a guy offstage at a show all the way back in 2007.

First off, A+ usage of this clip if you look at that thread. A well-placed joke (and RHog) is what brought this back into the Twitter meme lexicon, and I have no idea how I’ve missed it all these years. This is one of the ultimate okie dokes in okie doke history. Akon helps this kid up onto the stage, gets him on his shoulders like he’s John Cena, and then yeets that kid into the front row. So fluid in his movement! No wasted motion! Akon should’ve been a professional wrestler.

Now, of course, we have to mention that it is highly illegal to throw a 15-year-old off the stage at a concert, and Akon did get community service and was fined $350 for it. But, if you ask me, I’d say it was probably worth it for the lolz. I miss the old days of the internet, when people hadn’t figured out just how incriminating it was and were still acting wild without realizing their actions were being filmed.
