Welcome in to the 2021 NFL MVP Watch, where I will be taking a look around the landscape of the MVP race in the NFL this season. This is pretty much the same thing as my Heisman Watch, sooooo…like, do I want to spend a lot of time on an intro?

Shit, I guess I will for the uninitiated – each week, I will count down the five most MVP-worthy performances of the week and offer up my reasoning for each ranking. You finish first, you get five points. Second is four, so on and so forth. I will keep the season point totals going at the bottom of the article and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points gets the 2021 SoBros Network NFL MVP “honors.”

2021 NFL MVP WATCH: WEEK 2

5. Kyler Murray, Cardinals QB – Again, Murray goes out and accounts for four total touchdowns. He had a couple of picks against the Vikings on Sunday, but all in all, he put in another dynamic performance. Murray was 29/36 for a whopping 400 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also had 31 rushing yards with a rushing touchdown to boot. This Cardinals offense is fun to watch.

4. Lamar Jackson, Ravens QB – Jackson threw a couple of picks against the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, but it was his ability as a runner that ultimately proved to be the difference in that contest. The Chiefs had no answer for it late and Jackson absolutely gashed them to the tune of 107 yards and two touchdowns.

3. Derek Carr, Raiders QB – You know what? I’ll say it. I’m kind of here for the Derek Carr bandwagon. He’s playing the best football of his career and the Raiders are 2-0 after this dude has been perennially underrated throughout his career. He went 28/37 for 382 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. He’s played two good defenses in Baltimore and Pittsburgh, and all he’s done is air it out on ’em. Dude has already amassed 817 passing yards on the season. Let’s put him in the legitimate conversation for MVP so far.

2. Tom Brady, Buccaneers QB – It never ceases to amaze me just how dominant Brady can be at the quarterback position. I mean, at this point, what else can we say that hasn’t been said before? Brady was 24/36 for 276 yards and FIVE touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. That brings his total on the season to nine touchdowns….nine touchdowns…in two games.

1. Derrick Henry, Titans RB – I don’t know how appreciated Henry truly is outside of the Music City, but this man is starting to climb into some elite company in NFL history. He now trails just Jim Brown (13) and LaDainian Tomlinson (12) with 10 games with 150+ rushing yards and 2+ rushing touchdowns. He was absolutely critical to the Titans big time comeback win in Seattle, hanging 237 yards from scrimmage (182 rushing, 55 receiving) on the Seahawks and three touchdowns, and bouncing dudes’ heads off the ground like basketballs in the process.
