Let’s dive into the week that was in college football and hit all the highlights on the SoBros Network’s College Football Roundup.
*All due respect to the Nebraska-Illinois and Hawai’i-UCLA contests, the season started in earnest last Thursday night, and the highlight had to be the scare that Ohio State had against Minnesota. C.J. Stroud looked like a mess, and the Buckeyes trailed 14-10 at the half. Eventually, they settled in and pulled away from the Golden Gophers, and honestly, I have no idea what to make of this matchup. Are the Buckeyes not as good as we thought they’d be? Is Minnesota better? Do we have to keep watching Big Ten football?
*To me, the big winner of the weekend was that Georgia defense. It really was the difference maker in Saturday night’s clash of titans. Christopher Smith picked off a pass, returned it 74 yards, and it ended up being the only score in the game. I expect this team to ride this defense to a special season – this Georgia team is a National Championship contender.
*What was with all the gross mayo-eating competitions? I’m going to be the one guy on the internet poo-pooing it. That shit is disgusting. I don’t think it’s funny – it makes my guts turn. I don’t hate mayo as strongly as I used to – I think it complements a chicken sandwich just fine. But, you can go too much with mayo REAL QUICK. I am 100% certain that if I tried to rapidly eat mayo, I’d puke it all up in no time. And, then I’d have to eat it – at least, that seems to be the case based on the weird rules of this game.

*I’m off to a great start with my preseason hot takes – North Carolina looked like anything but a top 10 team and Sam Howell struggled big time. I don’t know if it’s possible for a guy to lose the Heisman in Week 1, but it damn sure looked like Sam Howell lost any chance he had at the Heisman in Week 1.
*Bama gonna Bama, I guess. But, damn – I was surprised at just how dominant they were from the jump. Is there anybody better with a ton of time to prepare than Nick Saban? That defense looked absolutely nasty, and I don’t think we’re really going to have to worry about Bryce Young “growing” into that starting quarterback role with experience. That dude went off for 344 yards and four touchdowns.

*Way to go, Tulane. They’ve been workin’ on a hell of a program down there in recent years. I was really rooting for them to pull off the upset, but Oklahoma barely survived. I recently wrote that there’s always one Group of Five team that comes out of nowhere and makes a run at the New Year’s Six – why not Tulane this season?
*Shout out to Alyssa Lang for owning up to her word and eating a banana, peel and all, just like Will Levis does, on live television.
.@AlyssaLang said she’d eat one if Levis broke the 300-yard mark. Like a champ, she followed through. pic.twitter.com/g11k6gaeFU

*UCLA is off to a hot start, but I still don’t know whether they’re legit or not. I just bring them up to say I told you guys I was concerned about LSU this season, and this is exactly why:

*I take back every optimistic thing I said about Vanderbilt this offseason. What a dumbass thing to think. What an idiot I am. Clark Lea, you made a fool out of me.
*Don’t act like any of y’all are surprised that Brian Kelly would be willing to execute anyone.
