CFB Roundup: It’s Alabama, Georgia, and Then Everybody Else

Alabama and Georgia both made statements on Saturday.

Let’s dive into the week that was in college football and hit all the highlights on the SoBros Network’s College Football Roundup.

*Well, it’s clear now. It’s the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’s the Georgia Bulldogs. And then, it’s everybody else. These two are far and away the best teams in college football so far this season. I don’t think the final scores in either game were truly indicative of just how dominant both teams were. These teams are on a collision course for Atlanta, and I don’t know who’s going to step up and challenge either team. Both could end up in the playoffs even if they meet in the SEC Championship.

*I know Urban Meyer is coaching the Jacksonville Jaguars right now, and this is supposed to be a college football blog, but I can’t help myself. We have to talk about it – and y’all should know by now that we make our own rules here at SoBros Network. I’m going to go ahead and tie Meyer to that USC job, and that’s how we’re going to get away with putting this in this week’s College Football Roundup.

Just truly unbelievable stuff – I tweeted on Thursday night that I was here for the shit show, and on Saturday night, the shit show elevated to a new level whenever a video of a woman that is very much not Meyer’s wife grinding all over Meyer’s cod went viral. It looks like the video has been deleted – not sure how that happened, and we’ve yet to hear from Meyer. To say this season has been a disaster for him would be an understatement. I’m here for every bit of it. And, since the video was deleted, I’ll share my favorite meme I saw Saturday night of the myriad that hit Twitter:

*Y’know….I don’t want to jinx the Cincinnati Bearcats, but…take a look at how this season has played out for them. Texas A&M goes down, Clemson loses twice, Ohio State loses, Oklahoma looks less than stellar, Oregon loses, and they get that big win over a Notre Dame team whose resumé was boosted by that dominant Wisconsin win. Just about everything that Cincinnati has needed to happen in order to make a legitimate case for a College Football Playoff spot has happened. They just have to keep winning at this point, and they just might do it. This is a damn good football team.

Also, props to their social media team for dropping this absolute dagger:

*Give me some credit – every now and then, I get some things right. This week, I was spot on with the Tennessee Volunteers and the Kentucky Wildcats in my SEC Picks. I thought Mizzou had the wind taken out of its sails, and the Vols offense made the right call at quarterback, rolling with Hendon Hooker, to get this offense going. Likewise, I’ve thought this Wildcats team was being undervalued all season long. I said it before the season started and I’ll double down on it now: this Kentucky team could absolutely be the 2nd best team in the SEC East.

*We keep getting…just….Grade A meme content out of this horrific season for Florida State:

*The Vanderbilt Commodores survived the mighty Huskies from UConn and apparently acted like they had won the Super Bowl:

*Well, I bit a little too hard a little too early on UCLA. We said on the show that it was finally starting to look like Chip Kelly was getting all the pieces he needed in place, and maybe this would be the season that it all came together. And, to be fair, sure…that’s mathematically a chance that they can still go on a run, win the Pac-12, and get to the Rose Bowl. But, with two losses, this “playoff push” we talked about a few weeks ago is cooked. Meanwhile, Jayden Daniels and Arizona State got a big win, whooping the Bruins’ asses and taking control of the Pac-12 South in the process. We did get this play from DTR though:

*Lane Kiffin had maybe the worst mic drop of all time:

Maybe…maybe…this works if Ole Miss comes out and beats Alabama. Maybe it even works if they don’t beat ‘Bama, but play them closely. But, it most definitely does not work when you get steamrolled the way Ole Miss did on Saturday, and now we’re lookin’ back ya ass saying “get your popcorn ready.” Look – I’ve always lauded Kiffin’s confidence…we need more personality in football, and I’m here for it because I get to write shit like this. But, man oh man was this a massive L. Also, yeah – Kiffin should absolutely reimburse CBS for the cost of that headset.

*Mississippi State proved us all to be frauds because we thought Texas A&M would challenge Alabama for the SEC West and now they’ve lost two games. At least, we got this clip:

I honestly can’t tell if this is happening in real time or if this is a VHS tape rewinding. Regardless, it seems like a very dramatic manner of getting back to your feet and not at all efficient. Think about how much energy that man expended just getting back up. I kind of admire the move, to be honest, though. You’re up in the game. You’ve got time. Why not give the people a show? This is like ballet.

*Finally, did Brent Venables join D-Generation X?

*Conference championship match-ups based on current standings (I just think these are funny and/or interesting to lookout throughout the season, so figured I’d share ’em with y’all):

  • AAC: Houston vs. SMU
  • ACC: Wake Forest vs. Pitt
  • Big 12: Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State
  • Big Ten: Michigan vs. Iowa
  • C-USA: Charlotte vs. UTSA
  • MAC: Kent State vs. Western Michigan
  • MWC: Boise State vs. Nevada
  • Pac-12: Oregon State vs. Arizona State
  • SEC: Georgia vs. Alabama
  • Sun Belt: Coastal Carolina vs. Louisiana

*Personally, my top college football top 10 would look like this:

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Penn State
  4. Iowa
  5. Cincinnati
  6. Michigan (I can’t believe I’m buying in)
  7. BYU
  8. Oregon
  9. Ohio State
  10. Oklahoma
