Let’s dive into the week that was in college football and hit all the highlights on the SoBros Network’s College Football Roundup.

*It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. For fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Saturday night was a brutal affair taken with a lump in our throats. It ended the undefeated streak that Nick Saban had against his former assistants, and the undefeated streak that the team had against unranked opponents. We had been talking about how Alabama didn’t look quite right all season long, and those issues manifested on Saturday night. Texas A&M did a good job of overloading the line of scrimmage, disguising their blitzes, and fooling Bryce Young. They punched the defense, one that I’ve been critical of at times this season, right in the mouth. The Aggies absolutely earned that win, and now, Alabama has a little bit of soul searching to do if they want to get back into the National Championship mix.

*Saturday was one of those bat shit crazy days in college football that remind us of why we love the sport. There were massive upsets – of course, I’m talking about Ball State railing Western Michigan. Also, Texas A&M upsetting Alabama. But, you also had those games like Texas-Oklahoma and Michigan-Nebraska that felt like pure crack. It was one of those nights that you could easily find yourself switching back and forth between several games. It was easily the most memorable college football Saturday of the season, and one of the most memorable in quite some time.

*Okay, let’s weigh in on Iowa storming the field. That Penn State-Iowa game was a massive one in the Big Ten, but the complexion of that game absolutely changed when Sean Clifford went down. Good for the Hawkeyes for coming back and winning that game, but did that situation really call for a storming of the field? I mean, you’re at home…you’re the favorite…you’re ranked #3 in the country…and you beat Penn State’s backup quarterback. At the risk of sounding like a hater, and an old ass curmudgeon, I tend to lean “act like you’ve been there before,” but to each his own, I suppose.

*I keep writing it, and it keeps happening. Everything that the Cincinnati Bearcats need to happen to get into the College Football Playoff keeps happening. They blew out Temple, and then Alabama and Penn State BOTH lose, opening the door for them to climb to #3 in the AP Top 25. We’ll see how the College Football Playoff committee evaluates Cincinnati, as we’re still several weeks away from the first CFP rankings dropping. But, I’m just going to float that out there – if you’re Cincinnati, you just have to keep handling business.

*I’m sorry, but I just don’t think Oklahoma is a legitimate National Championship contender. Big 12? Sure, but how do you put ’em in the conversation until they start convincingly winning games? Then again, who knows? I keep writing about how they’re a pretender, and they just keep pulling these wins out of their asses. Saturday’s game against Texas was wild, and really, it looked like a miracle for the Sooners after benching Spencer Rattler. Speaking of, when’s the last time the presumptive #1 draft pick got benched halfway through the season? Oh, and a fox got loose on the field:

*That de facto elimination game between Ole Miss and Arkansas was another strong contributor to the zaniness of Saturday’s games. It could’ve gone either way, but Sam Pittman elected to go for two instead of kicking the extra point, and when the conversion attempt failed, Ole Miss eeked out a one-point win. I joked about it on last week’s show, but I think Ole Miss still mathematically has a shot at a playoff berth, and I’d just like to take this opportunity to point out that two things they needed to happen this weekend happened: beat Arkansas, and see Alabama lose. I’m just saying….

*Tough break for Nebraska fans. As it turns out, that team is nowhere near as bad as that 3-4 record would indicate. They’ve been out of it for awhile, but man, that team plays hard. They’re going to have to beat Minnesota and Purdue and then upset one of either Ohio State, Wisconsin, or Iowa in order to become bowl eligible. Meanwhile, Michigan may be the quietest 6-0 I remember.

*I am only mentioning BYU here to hold myself accountable and say I was wrong about them.

*Do you guys realize that if Kentucky can somehow beat the Georgia Bulldogs, who are the rightful #1 team in the country now (…and have been all season if you listen to the College Football Roundup Podcast), they will be the last remaining undefeated team in the SEC? I don’t think that happens, but I’ll say this – after watching ’em jump all over LSU, I’m a little more of a believer than I was a week ago.

*Things are continuing to click for that Tennessee offense – Hendon Hooker is the right guy at the helm, and I’ll say it – this could be the third best team in the SEC East right now. Meanwhile, Vandy gonna Vandy:

*Conference championship match-ups based on current standings (I just think these are funny and/or interesting to lookout throughout the season, so figured I’d share ’em with y’all):

  • AAC: Houston vs. SMU
  • ACC: Wake Forest vs. Pitt
  • Big 12: Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State
  • Big Ten: Michigan vs. Iowa
  • C-USA: Charlotte vs. UTSA
  • MAC: Kent State vs. Northern Illinois
  • MWC: Colorado State vs. San Diego State
  • Pac-12: Oregon State vs. Arizona State
  • SEC: Georgia vs. Alabama
  • Sun Belt: Coastal Carolina vs. Louisiana

*Personally, my top college football top 10 would look like this:

  1. Georgia
  2. Iowa
  3. Cincinnati
  4. Alabama
  5. Penn State
  6. Ohio State
  7. Michigan
  8. Kentucky
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Michigan State
