Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question:
What’s your GO TO Halloween candy as a kid, & has it changed since you’ve ripened in age?
— Brandon Vick (@SirBrandonV) October 28, 2021
Answer:
Honestly, this is going to disgust some, and to a select few, they won’t be surprised at all. I absolutely loved those gooey peanut butter candy things that came in either an orange wrapper or a black wrapper. I also love candy corn and DOTS….so, maybe I should specify that I’m an old man that loves stuff that most people find to be disgusting. It really hasn’t changed all that much since I was a kid…just….those gross candies are harder to find. I gotta buy the bag of Child’s Play every year just so I can get my DOTS and fruit flavored tootsie rolls. I will say that Werther’s Originals puts out pumpkin-flavored and caramel-apple flavored soft Werther’s, and I buy a bag of each every season.
Question:
Where can I buy an official SoBro costume for Halloween and what does that look like? Also will the SoBros team be doing any group costumes?
— Patrick Criswell (@PatCrizzy) October 28, 2021
Answer:
It would be super easy to go as me for Halloween – all you’d need is a backwards hat, hoodie, gym shorts, and flip-flops and then you’re set. About 80% of the time you’ll see me, that’s how I’m dressed. Maybe the beard might present some problems, but otherwise, most folks would have it pretty easy.
No group costumes this year – our schedules have been so crazy, and there’s been so much real life shit happening that has kept us from getting together regularly that there are no plans for a Halloween get-together. We will be doing a livestream of Drinking With…Steven McCash, talking about the 2000 film, The Cell starring Jennifer Lopez, tonight at 8PM(ish). And, of course, I’m the only lunatic that would count doing work as the “company Halloween party,” but shit – it’s the closest thing we got!
I think one day if we ever have a legit SoBros office and are making enough money to employ the 11 people that run SoBros Network, then I could definitely see it being the type of place where we’d come to work in costume close to Halloween. That said, I’ve never been a big costume guy – I’m too cheap for it. It’s just a waste of money to me to pay top dollar for something I’m going to wear once and then toss, but maybe that’s just me being an old man again.
Question:
Name one Halloween tradition and one new Halloween trend you participate in.
— b. (@brittbutspooky) October 29, 2021
(Stole this question from @QuickSixerCast)
Answer:
Tradition, for me, would be a hot chocolate, popcorn, Halloween movie night. I’ve been doing that at least once a season for as long as I can remember. This year, we popped some popcorn, cooked up some pumpkin spiced hot chocolate, and watched the original Halloween and Muppets Haunted Mansion in the same night. I have a list of movies that I have to watch every season – I think that’s what more of my traditions are about.
As for new trends, well….I think I’m probably the least trendy person you know. Again, it comes back to movies for me, and I’m looking at some of my new favorites that have entered the rotation every year – Hubie Halloween, The Lighthouse, stuff like that.
Question, from Ryan on Facebook:
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving beer?
Answer:
THANKSGIVING BEERS?!?! Do WHAT?!?! I’ll say…..I’m going to be switching over to the holiday beers here in a couple of weeks. My favorite, of which I’ll probably consume many throughout the week of Thanksgiving (since I’ll be on vacation), is Yuengling’s Hershey’s Porter. Fill me up, daddy.
Question, from Will on Facebook:
Who u think going to win tomorrows football game green hill or mj?
Answer:
Gotta be Green Hill, right? They just rocked a 7-2 Station Camp team to clinch the Region 5-5A Championship 48-0. Mt. Juliet’s coming off a loss. I’m going with the Green Hawks.
Question, from Olivia on Facebook:
What was the last thing that made you belly laugh/ laugh til you cried?
Answer:
I feel so bad about this answer, but I couldn’t help myself. We usually keep a stool in front of our living room window so that Bucky (our cat for those that might not know) can hop up on it and stare out the window. Sometimes, he gets a little too jacked up on Mountain Dew and decides he’s going to run across our house, jump up on the recliner that the stool is next to and then jump up on the stool like a wild cat in the jungle jumping from tree to tree.
Well, one evening, we were sitting on the couch talking when we heard the thunderous noise of Bucky taking off from the kitchen and across the living room. He leapt from the couch to the recliner, and then from the recliner to his stool. But….we hadn’t put the stool out for him yet and he didn’t realize it until he was mid-air. He crashed face-first into the window and then fell to the ground. He immediately got up and turned to look at us as if to say “you guys see that?”
After we realized that he was okay, neither of us could stop laughing for awhile. I had tears in my eyes.
