Sunday afternoon, the good people of Charlotte, NC were treated to an entertaining day of NFL football at Bank of America Stadium. The Carolina Panthers, who were without their all-pro running back Christian McCaffrey (who was placed on the injured reserve list due to an ailing hamstring), took on the Minnesota Vikings in a thrilling game. The Panthers lost in overtime to the Vikings, but some fans from both sides were not ready for the action to end.
As fans begin to exit the concourse, a vocal altercation between a Vikings fan in a purple shirt with white hair and a few Panthers fans erupted in what appears to be the lower level of the stadium. The Vikings fan seems to be having some beef with a Panthers fan wearing a Jaycee Horn jersey who is doing his best Scrappy Doo impersonation. Number 8 clearly wants to look tough in front of everyone but does not want any smoke. He tries to grab the older fan by the arm while looking like he’s yelling “Lemme at em! Lemme at em!!”

In the blink of an eye, in the back, away from the action, you see a man in a white shirt taking down a man and then being held to the ground. After several viewings of the video, it is unsure of what this has to do with the ruckus between the older gentleman and Scooby’s nephew. With some quick detective work, I learned that the tackler was indeed an off-duty police officer who was there with his family and was just trying to diffuse the situation. Officer Denzel Goins (@deadassserious) tweeted that he was the man seen in the video keeping the man pinned to the floor. He stated that the fight appeared to stem from a female with the Vikings fan being hit or shoved by someone.
Other people begin to appear to try to calm everything down while some hooligans come out of nowhere trying to get some cheap shots in. As it appears that cooler heads are about to prevail, Scrappy Doo keeps running at the mouth and Foghorn Leghorn goes after him one more time when we see some new characters begin to take shots at the Vikings fan. A man in a black tank top shoves the man, followed by a man in a white shirt who takes a swing at him. The melee brings the man in the purple shirt to his knees where it appears another man in a black tank top takes the kill shot against the Vikings fan.
To his credit, and with a little help, Foghorn makes it back to his feet ready for round two and as the video ends you see some of the culprits running off with Vikings fan giving chase. It is still not 100% percent clear over what started all of this, but the wrestling fan in me believes it was over who can truly Ric Flair claim as their own. The Nature Boy has called Charlotte home for decades, but got his true start in the business in Minnesota training under Vergne Gagne. Flair debuted for Gagne’s AWA, American Wrestling Alliance, and worked for him for a few years before eventually heading for the Queen City and working for the NWA, National Wrestling Alliance.
In this scenario, purple shirt guy is tired of hearing #8 running off at the mouth about Space Mountain being in Charlotte and ‘woo-ing’ at every opportunity. Vikings fan is quick to remind him that Vergne Gagne is better than Jim Crocket and that without him, Space Mountain wouldn’t even be a hill. After several chops across the chest and both men screaming “To be the man you have to beat the man” they begin to strut across the concourse as Flair would do in the ring. As the man in the purple shirt gives a ‘woo’ of his own, a mystery man appears from out of nowhere to drop a massive right fist drop off of the middle rope akin to Jerry “The King” Lawler. The knockout artist just stands over the defeated man and screams “Memphis, bitch!” and then disappears in the crowd. As the man in purple comes back to, he is informed that Flair was actually born in Memphis and that the Bluff City is the true rightful owner to the Nature Boy.
