THE ICE AGE ADVENTURES OF BUCK WILD

1.5 out of 5 stars

With the demise of Blue Sky Studios, Disney is getting in to the Ice Age business and it’s without the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, and several others. Is it even an Ice Age at this point? This pitiful spinoff focuses on the madcap, clueless possum brothers Eddie (Aaron Harris) and Crash (Vincent Tong) who are sick and tired of their sister Ellie (Dominique Jennings) constantly getting on to them. They think the time is now to finally go out on their own, which is a scary thought for the rest of the pack. To no one’s surprise, it doesn’t take long for Crash and Eddie to wind up in a place where they don’t belong.

At least it’s a familiar one as it’s the Lost World that audiences were first introduced to back in Dawn of the Dinosaurs. And where there are dinos, there’s the one-eyed, venturesome weasel, Buck Wild (Simon Pegg). He comes swinging to the rescue, and together with Zee (Justina Machado), an old team member he has some history with – they must stop a recusant triceratops named Orson (Utkarsh Ambudkar) who’s wanting to take over the Lost World.

I think we can all agree that by the time Ice Age: Collision Course came out in 2016, the series had basically become extinct. Unfortunately, this new one doesn’t change that and is just a shell of its former self. The story is lame, the voice work is unenthusiastic, and the humor is lazy. I realize kids could enjoy it, but why not just show them the first Ice Age instead? They’ll thank you when they’re older.
