It’s been a busy week down here in Mobile, Alabama. Senior Bowl activities are well underway and we’re down here trying as best as the weather will allow us to cover everything for you guys. Today’s practices were moved to the University of South Alabama’s indoor training facility, and while you’ll find reports for both teams’ practices linked below, one of if not the single best highlight from today came during the American Team’s practice. They were running edge rushers against running backs in pass protection in 1:1 reps when Brian Robinson Jr. absolutely popped Channing Tindall.

So, it’s apparent that Robinson woke up and chose violence today. Maybe carrying a few leftover feelings from the National Championship over into the Senior Bowl? I don’t know – but I didn’t think stuff like that was supposed to happen at the Senior Bowl. And, listen – props to Tindall here. That collision sounded violent, and he was initially knocked off base, but he recovered and still made a rush at Bailey Zappe even though he was off balance. A for effort and what have you.
This rep between these two was so good that later on in the practice, head coach Duce Staley had ’em going at it again. They had at least three more reps against one another, and they were all pretty evenly matched.
I thought Robinson had a particularly good day. The book on him seems to be that he’s not quite elite at any one thing at the running back position, but seeing him out there winning in pass pro in these 1:1 situations against talent makes me think that ‘pass pro’ just might be that thing that he’s better at than any other back in the draft (admittedly hyperbolic and said without fully evaluating every single back in this class – *pats chest* my bad). Robinson is a decisive, physical runner with the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He blocks well, and had a highly productive season for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Maybe he’s not the next Derrick Henry or Najee Harris, but he damn sure can be a solid contributor to just about any offense in the NFL. Pound for pound, he just looks like a quality NFL running back.
