How many rematches can you have? How many times can you tell the same story? How many different ways can you tell the same story? These are all questions that the marks – and I am indeed one of them, make no mistake about it – cite when talking about how little a potential rematch between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania intrigues them. Now, eventually, you have to either shit or get off the pot – you can’t keep saying WWE sucks and continue to watch it week in and week out. If you’re going to call it trash, then simply walk away. There’s a wealth of alternatives out there. For me, I grew kind of tired of everything going on in the WWE with the exception of the Big Dog and our Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.
In fact, the 2022 Royal Rumble is literally the only WWE show since SummerSlam of 2021 that I’ve sat down to watch. And, before that, it was last year’s WrestleMania. I still come back for the big shows, but by and large, I tune out the WWE except for the clips y’all retweet on the Twitter gimmick and the accompanying discourse. But, the magicians at WWE creative have somehow erased all of those concerns and tricked me into giving a shit again with the advent of the Cowboy Brock phenomenon.

Who IS this man?!?! Out here smiling, slapping hands with fans, interactin’ with the children…this is not The Beast Incarnate I recognize. This is a man who seems to be finally letting loose a little bit, having fun on The Pat McAfee Show, and wearing some badass, and I do mean BADASS, sweaters out to the ring with his cowboy hat. It’s been YEARS sine they did anything truly fresh with Lesnar, but this almost feels like a totally different character.
I’m in! It’s…like…the one thing you could’ve done to make me give a shit about Brock Lesnar again. And, listen – I’m not being a hater. I respect the fact that he’s a draw and the WWE goes to the well with him. I just lost interest in the guy, and like I said, the WWE product as a whole, quite awhile ago. I rolled my eyes as soon as he lost to Bobby Lashley at the Rumble. As soon as it happened, I said, “he’s going to enter the Rumble and win it.” And here we are. But, they’re using the history of Lesnar and Reigns as a foundation for this program, with the dynamic of a role reversal sprinkled in to make it a little refreshing. The deck seems to be getting stacked against Lesnar. Reigns is the guy we’re booing now. I honestly didn’t think WWE would ever pull the trigger on a legit Reigns heel turn, much less a Cowboy Brock face turn. But, I’ll give them their due – it caught my attention. I stopped and said, “okay, wait – this could actually be fun.”
In a traditional, old school sense, this ‘Winner Takes All’ billing…’Title for Title’…is a nice throwback to the big champion vs. champion matches of yesteryear – Hogan-Warrior immediately comes to mind. I’m not sure how we ended up with Lesnar winning the Rumble -and- getting the WWE Championship, but logic and rules don’t always have to make sense in the world of professional wrestling. It’s here, and it’s another layer to this story that it makes it a little more interesting, and makes it feel all the more grandiose.
Props to the WWE for pulling the trigger on this WrestleMania season feud. I have no idea how the WrestleMania 38 card will shake down, but this feels like a much better main event than I thought it was going to be when I figured this was going to be yet another run-of-the-mill Lesnar-Reigns rematch angle.
