Hidden gem in Nashville – Brittany and I have “our spot.” That spot is Don Julio in Madison. Hands down our favorite Mexican food in Nashville. I’ve never had a bad meal here. A few years ago, we came here with Steven & Heather McCash and Steven ordered the wings. I don’t remember if he got traditional Buffalo or their “house” wings, but he said they were incredible. I let this sit in my brain for a few years. I couldn’t get myself away from the tacos and other dishes.
Recently, I got the wings. I got the “house” wings. They were, in fact, incredible. But was it a fluke? Everything I’ve ever had from here has been a slam dunk. Never a single miss. I got the wings again. THE house wings. They have a hint of Buffalo mixed with other flavors. They have a certain “tang” and zest that I haven’t found anywhere else, especially in Nashville. It’s not a heat level thing, it’s 100% flavor.
Full disclosure, if I ask Brittany what she wants to eat, 9 times out of 10, it’s Don Julio. They know us. The staff is so friendly and wonderful. If you want really good and flavorful Mexican food, this is the spot. Sometimes I don’t want Mexican food though, and we can figure out where to go. It’s easy for me to come here and get the wings and consistently be more than ecstatic with my decision. So if you’re looking for a fun and friendly date night, or just don’t know where to go, swing by “The Don” as we call it.
