The title is a bit tacit in this Gabriel Carrer and Reese Eveneshen directed flick. If you’re looking for one of those profound horror movies with a labyrinth of deeper meanings, and a plot that will give you all the answers, look elsewhere. This isn’t it. Move along. If you’re looking for a total and complete blood bath with splatter porn and hammer claws as weapons, PICK THIS! HIT PLAY!
For the Sake of Vicious is the perfect movie to choose for “Sunday Scaries.” It starts out at a slow, unassuming pace, and picks up right where it needs to during the third act. The rest of the film isn’t as eventful as the story unfolds, but with a runtime of only 80 minutes, it’s absolutely worth it.
Carrer and Eveneshen took the home invasion genre in a new and fresh direction, and it’s unlike any horror movie I’ve seen. It delivers in a way that is so unique, and it felt like it was a movie that was made just for the fans of the genre. The cast and crew did a fantastic job from the wardrobe, to the sound design, and special effects. Also as an added bonus, this movie takes place on Halloween night, so I was quite fond of seeing the decorations throughout the film. Added a little extra something for me, personally.
The story never fully gets flushed out with a resolution that makes sense to the viewer, but that’s fine. We don’t need every detail explained to us all the damn time. Let me zone out in front of the tv and watch the blood fly.
A perfect little getaway to relieve some tension and help us forget that our 9-5 will be waiting for us in the morning, For the Sake of Vicious deserves your attention.
