2022 Tennessee Titans Draft Needs

Stoney Keeley recaps what he thinks the Titans need as we inch closer to the 2022 NFL Draft.

The NFL Draft is about a month away at this point. I could do my due diligence and double check, but I don’t feel like it right now. Fuck it. For the Tennessee Titans, this offseason should be about adding a spark on offense and planting depth all around the roster. I know the season definitely didn’t go the way a lot of Titans fans had hoped it would go, but we shouldn’t let that sour taste in our mouths prevent us from seeing how good and deep this roster is. It should absolutely still be considered among the best in the AFC, and no, I’m not exactly shaking in my boots because a lot of AFC teams made a lot of trades and spent a ton of money in free agency. The Titans should still be among the contenders in 2022 – so how can they complement their already solid roster through the NFL Draft?

2022 Tennessee Titans Draft Needs

In no particular order…

Right tackle – Right tackle may be the biggest question mark this team has when it comes to who is going to start. I don’t know who it is right now. I would’ve said free agent acquisition Jamarco Jones before I heard Mike Vrabel talking about him starting at left guard yesterday thanks to Jim Wyatt. David Quessenberry did a stand-up job in 2021, but he is currently a free agent. There’s always the possibility that he comes back, but the more I think about it, the more I think offensive tackle will be the pick at #26.

Left Guard – Like I said, it sounds like they expect Jones to be the guy at left guard, but I just don’t know how realistic it is to expect him to be the long-term solution at the position. This is a good offensive line draft with some great interior guys that will undoubtedly push for starting roles in the NFL. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Titans try to get their stalwart at guard in this draft and reserve Jones for that ‘sixth man’ swing role they love having on this roster.

OL depth – Aside from needing a couple of starters, the Titans could put contingency plans in place for the offensive line, as well as looking to the future at left tackle and center. Aaron Brewer and Corey Levin provide good depth. I don’t what to think of Dillon Radunz, but he was a high draft pick in 2021, so he’ll get a shot. But, I expect some competition to be brought in to make that unit better as a whole.

Wide receiver – I am over the moon about the addition of Bobby Trees himself, Robert Woods. But, I don’t think it’s enough. This offense needs horses, dudes, stallions, steeds, and warriors. Come one, come all. Let’s give Tim Kelly and Todd Downing some shiny new toys to play with. I would love to see this offense get a small, shifty, gadgety wide receiver, but that doesn’t seem to be this regime’s M.O.

Tight end – See above except with ‘Austin Hooper‘ where ‘Robert Woods’ is. Oh, and also…Trey McBride or bust.

Quarterback – I don’t think quarterback is an immediate need, but I mention it here because I do feel the window is open for life after Ryan Tannehill. I wouldn’t put it past them to draft a guy in the first round if they absolutely feel like he can be the future of the franchise. This roster doesn’t have any glaring holes in it right now. Because of that, they’re afforded the luxury of being able to burn a draft pick at #26 on a guy who won’t play in 2022 (not that that has stopped them before). Is that a hot take? Kinda feels like a hot take.

ILB depth – I don’t want to cause a riot on Titans Twitter. I’m talking about maybe a late-round investment. But, I liked when the Titans had four capable ILBs. Right now, they have three. Add another guy in the rotation since you don’t have dire needs at safety, defensive line, or cornerback. *shrugs*

DB depth – You always have to take a defensive back or two in the NFL Draft, right?! Isn’t that one of those unwritten rules of the NFL Draft? I’m not going to be mad about adding Leon O’Neal Jr. into the fold.
