The Broncos Grab Russell Wilson; My Oh My, Who Ever Could Replace Him in Seattle?!

Could the Seattle Seahawks be eyeing a particular prospect in this year's NFL Draft to take the reins now that Russell Wilson is a Bronco?

What a big day in the NFL yesterday – all of us office grinders just plowing away in our cubicles (metaphorically speaking, of course – I work from home) barely able to keep up with all of the news about the trades and the franchise tags. I wasn’t surprised to see that Aaron Rodgers decided to stay with the Green Bay Packers, but I have to admit…I didn’t see the news that Russell Wilson had been traded to the Denver Broncos coming at all. Much less when the details came out and we saw what the Broncos gave up to get him! The Broncos shipped off two first round picks, two second round picks, fifth round pick, Shelby Harris, and Noah Fant. Most surprisingly, they traded away the future of the franchise in Drew Lock (</sarcasm>)!!! In return, the Broncos got Wilson and a fourth round pick. No doubt that this is one of the biggest blockbuster trades of all time. I love that Broncos roster. I thought they could’ve been a surprise playoff contender in 2021, but it wasn’t in the cards for ’em. Now, with Wilson at the helm, this team should be expected to contend for an AFC Championship.

But, it does beg the question – is Lock really going to be the guy moving forward in Seattle? Are they content with giving him a crack at the starting job? Or, do they have a plan in place to grab a guy with what I presume to be their newly-acquired 9th overall pick?

I don’t care if this is a joke tweet or not, I felt this one down in my plums, turning a bluish hue. I’m going to ride with it because it expresses something that I was too afraid to put on the internet for my Twitter followers to see. If you watch Matt Corral, he’s got a little bit of Russell Wilson to his game. There – I said it. I think Corral’s ceiling and skillset is Wilson-esque.

I actually wrote in this piece the other day that Corral is a gamer. I called him a “groovy” player because he just gets in there, with a firm command of his offense, and feels it all out in real time. He’s an underrated athlete, and while he might not be the best pure rusher of the quarterback class, he has some escapability and wheels that can make you pay. He’s so good off-script when plays break down, and he throws a mean pump fake with an ability to manipulate defensive backs.

Coincidentally, he can also be a little too aggressive throwing the ball down the field with other options open. There’s not a lot of his tape that features stuff that looks like it’ll translate to the NFL, but what is there looks promising, and it reminds me a lot of the way Wilson plays. That’s why – I don’t care what the haters say – Corral is worth rolling the dice on in this year’s class. He’s my QB1, and the Seahawks could be in a prime position to draft him.

jk it’s probably going to be Malik Willis.
