Well, we just wrapped up our coverage of the 2022 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival out of Durham, North Carolina. But, as they say, the grind don’t sleep. It’s time for your friendly neighborhood resident film critic, Brandon Vick, and myself to shift gears and turn our attention to one of our favorite film festivals that we’ve had the pleasure of covering: the Atlanta Film Festival.
This year, the Atlanta Film Festival is running from April 21st through May 1st. That’s right – it’s a veritable rite of spring. And, if you can’t make it down to the ATL, fret not – this year’s festival is a hybrid event between virtual screenings and in-person screenings, so you can take it some of the festival’s selections from the privacy and comfort of your own home.
From the Atlanta Film Festival’s website:
Celebrating its 46th year, the Atlanta Film Festival is the region’s preeminent celebration of cinema. The organization offers entertainment, networking, education & professional development year-round. The festival itself is one of the largest and longest-running in the region. It is also the most distinguished event in its class, recognized as the ‘Best Spring Festival’ by Atlanta Journal-Constitution, ‘Best Film Festival’ by Creative Loafing, Sunday Paper, 10Best and Atlanta Magazine, as well as one of the ’25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World’ and one of ’50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee’ by MovieMaker Magazine.
This year, the Atlanta Film Festival has 152 films on deck – 27 features and 124 shorts. This, in addition to their Creative Conference. If there’s one word that comes to mind when I think about this particular festival, it’s “variety.” There is a ton of art to consume, and through the panels of their Creative Conference, you just might learn a thing or two to boot. Brandon and I will be covering the festival virtually this year, though we can’t wait to get back down to Atlanta to do it right, in-person, again in the future.
Check out the Atlanta Film Festival’s Film Guide, buy a badge or two to experience the festival for yourself, and clear your weekend. There’s a reason it’s become one of our regular festivals – this will be our fourth consecutive year of covering this festival. You can check out our Atlanta Film Festival archives here.
