None of this shit matters, and I don’t know why we keep doing it to ourselves. But, we do. It’s like crack – they’re ever-present this time of year….the NFL mock draft. We can’t get enough. I’ve probably read thousands of these things at this point. And, I still don’t know what constitutes the decimal point. How many changes have to happen to switch from 1.0 to 1.2? 1.5? A full point? It’s one of life’s greatest mysteries. Anyway, we have a tradition of our own to keep up with – the one and only SoBros mock draft. Now, I’ll say this. This mock is based on what I think makes sense -and- could happen…not necessarily what I would do if I had the keys to the kingdom. I do that in my annual “Bat Shit Crazy Mock Draft” on the SoBros Patreon (coming soon). Also, I don’t mock trades – that’s way too unpredictable. So, with that said, let’s get to it.

THE SOBROS 2022 NFL MOCK DRAFT 1.0

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Aidan Hutchinson – I know there’s a lot of buzz for Travon Walker here, and really, this is the most unpredictable I remember the NFL Draft being in a long time, but the Jags can’t overthink this one. I think they’ll go with the high-floor guy here.
  2. Detroit Lions: Kayvon Thibodeaux – ….and the Detroit Lions will gladly take whichever EDGE guy the Jags pass on.
  3. Houston Texans: Travon Walker – I’m kind of sort of buying the hype on Walker being legit (personally, I wouldn’t touch him inside the top 15, but that’s just me).
  4. New York Jets: Derek Stingley, Jr. – I just have a gut feeling that Stingley will be drafted before Gardner because of his upside.
  5. New York Giants: Charles Cross – Rumor has it that the Giants worked Cross out at right tackle and were satisfied with his performance. He’s the best pass protector in this class, and that will serve well in Brian Daboll’s high pass volume offense.
  6. Carolina Panthers: Ikem Ekwonu – The Panthers will rush to the podium to get the road-grading Ekwonu. Mfs just BOUNCE off this dude.
  7. New York Giants: Sauce Gardner – The Giants will happily take Gardner or Stingley here. It just so happens Stingley is already off the board.
  8. Atlanta Falcons: Evan Neal – Everyone’s just assuming that the Falcons are going to go receiver here, but I think they’d be doing cartwheels if one of these three tackles is available.
  9. Seattle Seahawks: Jermaine Johnson – The Seahawks need immediate impact in the pass rush, and Johnson can be that guy.
  10. New York Jets: Jameson Williams – I can’t read minds. I have no idea who the Jets think is the best wideout in this class is…but since I think it’s Williams, that’s who we’re going to roll with here.
  11. Washington Commanders: Drake London – The Commanders need to stockpile talent around Carson Wentz, and London could end up being the best receiver in this draft.
  12. Minnesota Vikings: Jordan Davis – I could see the Vikings going corner here, but with Stingley and Gardner both off the board, they’re afforded the luxury of taking one of the most talented dudes in this draft.
  13. Houston Texans: Kyle Hamilton – Another cornerstone guy on defense for the Texans…one that I think could look like the best defensive player in this draft class when we look back on it in five years.
  14. Baltimore Ravens: Trevor Penning – Doesn’t Penning just feel like a Baltimore Raven?
  15. Philadelphia Eagles: Garrett Wilson – The Eagles need more bona fides at the receiver position to stack the deck for Jalen Hurts.
  16. New Orleans Saints: Chris Olave – I love the Saints as a potential trade-up candidate, but not for the reason you may think. I think they might want one of these tackles to replace Terron Armstead. Since I’m not mocking trades, those guys are off the board, and the Saints address their other major need here.
  17. Los Angeles Chargers: David Ojabo – The Chargers are rumored to be high on Trevor Penning, so they could reach for a tackle here to address the need if he’s gone. But, I don’t love the options. This would be a good situation for Ojabo to land in, as he needs some work. The Chargers could use EDGE depth, and he wouldn’t be required to start right away.
  18. Philadelphia Eagles: Andrew Booth, Jr. – The Eagles also need another outside corner. Booth is a top 12 player on my big board.
  19. New Orleans Saints: Tyler Smith – The Saints address their tackle need with a mauler that needs a little polish, but has tremendous upside.
  20. Pittsburgh Steelers: Malik Willis – The Steelers have their pick of the litter as has been rumored. It’s been no secret that they love Willis for the last few months.
  21. New England Patriots: Kenyon Green – The Pats need a WR, but that just doesn’t seem like a very Patriots pick here. Instead, they get tremendous value at a position of need.
  22. Green Bay Packers: Jahan Dotson – Dotson just feels like a natural fit within an offense that just needs play-makers.
  23. Arizona Cardinals: George Karlaftis – I’m not as high on Karlaftis as others are, but the Cardinals need some teeth in their pass rush, and this guy’s floor is high enough to warrant pulling the trigger on in the first round.
  24. Dallas Cowboys: Zion Johnson – It’s time for the Cowboys to start tweaking and re-tooling that once-vaunted offensive line.
  25. Buffalo Bills: Trent McDuffie – The Bills are in a position to take the best corner available here.
  26. Tennessee Titans: Treylon Burks – The Titans need to do all they can to protect Ryan Tannehill and stockpile weapons around him. There’s no good value at OL here, so I take the guy that is being compared to AJ Brown here.
  27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Devonte Wyatt – The Bucs are in win-now mode, so they’ll look to stockpile talent on their already stout defensive front.
  28. Green Bay Packers: Bernard Raimann – I have no idea what the Packers are going to do with their 2nd first rounder this year. I threw a dart at the wall and it landed on ‘offensive line.’ I don’t think Raimann is going to pan out, but a lot of smart people do, and someone’s going to fall in love with his potential.
  29. Kansas City Chiefs: Christian Watson – A lot of what the Chiefs don’t have at the WR position right now can be found in Watson. He wouldn’t be my choice here, but he’s getting some legitimate first round buzz, and I’m not mocking trades, so here we are. The Chiefs need a receiver.
  30. Kansas City Chiefs: Daxton Hill – I think the Chiefs would be ecstatic to land Hill here, who is one of if not the best hybrid cornerback/safety combinations in this draft.
  31. Cincinnati Bengals: Travis Jones – Cincinnati, with all the work they did on the offensive line in free agency, is in a great position to just go ‘best player available’ here. It could be TE, but I like Jones to sneak into the first round as a disruptive force along the defensive line.
  32. Detroit Lions: Devin Lloyd – You guys might call me crazy, but I think the Lions are closer to competing than folks are giving them credit for. I’m not convinced that they’re going to move on from Jared Goff this offseason given how well he played down the stretch. The way this draft fell, I think they’d be stoked to end the night with two new cornerstone pieces on defense.
