The 25th annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival took place virtually from April 7-10. Our resident film critic, Brandon Vick, caught 15 flicks over the course of the festival. Last week, he and I got together to dive into his thoughts on each film in a two-part series on The Vick’s Flicks Podcast. You can catch Part 1 embedded below, but here’s a little preview of his thoughts on each doc. For more on Full Frame, check out their website here.
The 2022 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Part 1
- What We Leave Behind – synopsis – “It was always about family, and the whole documentary is about family. It’s intimate, and it’s just quiet.”
- Move Me – synopsis – “It’s one of my favorites from the fest. Co-directed by Kelsey Peterson, her whole attitude and mindset, her personality, just pops on the screen and what she’s having to go through is extremely difficult.”
- Mama Bears – synopsis – “A pretty thought-provoking documentary, I have to say…it’s joyful in the way of acceptance…preaching about acceptance. Even if they don’t agree with it, they’re not turning their back on their children.”
- Paper City – synopsis – “There’s a great appreciation for those who are trying to get this message out so it’s not forgotten, and to make people remember it.”
- Gabor – synopsis – “A pretty cool portrait of a photographer that I was not familiar with – a portrait about him, where he came from, how he fell in love with photography, how he’s still in love with photography, but also it plays like more of a trip down memory lane. I enjoyed it for what it is. Part of it is just discovering who he is.”
- Stay Prayed Up – synopsis – “It’s more of a musical event – we learn about Lena Mae Perry, her community, but it’s mainly about her, where she came from, and her group, The Branchettes.”
